I have a different interpretation of this comment. I don't read "the war was illegal" - I read "the concept of international law is a useless, meaningless joke."

It would be interesting to see the entire quote to understand the context of this one sentence.

Sounds good, but hang on a moment...how about the International Law of the Sea, for instance? What do you do about rights of passage on the high seas, salvage, mutual aid, piracy etc? You can't have a US naval vessel escorting every merchant ship on every voyage. Some international treaties with legal force are practically useful and sensible, surely?
