I assume the DA has already made in known to the Judge that's what they are demanding bail be set at, perhaps prior to the arrest warrant issuing.

I suppose that's possible, but it seems bass-ackwards to announce the bail amount before the suspect is in custody.

Interesting amount, too - low enough to permit him to avoid jail pending trial, or high enough that they know he lacks the liquidity to pay it?

I guess speculation on that is pointless; if he can't pay, his weird friends will.

I've never heard of it before, myself. I will ask my boss when I get back to work---he's a criminal attorney--but he's not familiar with CA law....
