Kennedy sent the first troops to Vietnam, and, to the revisionists talk, the troops were sent by some kind of divine intervention. Also, the Bay of Pigs was a mishandled debacle.

Kennedy started the war and LBJ escalated it, and they're both revered by the liberal punditocracy that despised Vietnam (though LBJ a lot less than Kennedy). Nixon ended the war, and he is still detested by the very same people years after his death. Go figure.
