The only 80's band that I think will stand the test of time is U2. Those stupid "hair" bands like "Motley Crew" and "Poison" are monuments to white trash middle America.

Don't forget Great White, Dokken, Warrant, Winger, Skid Row, etc., etc. There had to be fifty "hair" bands from that time that were big in the 1980s but forgotten ever since Nirvana exploded upon the scene and alternative rock took over. And I didn't even include the new-wave bands like Flock of Seagulls, Haircut 100, Duran Duran, Adam Ant, etc., etc. What a lousy decade for music. The 1970s gets a lot of criticism too but it was a much better decade for rock music.

I agree that U2 will at least stand the test of time but I lean towards their newer stuff (post Achtung Baby). Their older albums sound sort of dated now. If only Bono wasn't such a bonehead, I'd appreciate their music that much more.

Bono isn't that egregious - or at least not as annoying as he used to be. He is into his Africa charity work and has said some nice things about Bush for his help. He is hardly the biggest loud mouthed left wing entertainer out there today.
