Self-professed racist invited to lecture on diversity

After Bank One's "Ten Reasons a Beer is better than a Black Man" t-shirt give-away on campus last spring a $50,000 contribution was made to U of L to further the progress of diversity. Diane Whitlock, Administrative Assistant to the Vice Provost for Diversity, said in an email interview that a committee comprised mostly of students decided to use those funds to establish a diversity lecture series on campus. Instead, what we got was Sistah Souljah: the black equivalent of David Duke.
"Souljah was not born to make white people comfortable," says Sistah on her aptly named release Hate that Hate Produced. "I am African first." she expounds. "I am black first. I want what's good for me and my people first. And if my survival means your total destruction, then so be it."
Whoever produced her hatred did one hell of a job.
According to Souljah, Black people live in ghettos because of the evil white man. White girls are just "cute and stupid" and walk around trying to look like Britney Spears. Not even missionaries could escape her venom. They're just asking you for money and never telling you it's really evil white people who cause African children to grow up in poverty.
Souljah became famous in 1992 after being criticized by then-presidential candidate Bill Clinton for her comments concerning the L.A. riots. She explained the riots were "revenge" against white oppression and claimed that blacks were "at war." She went on to say, "if black people kill black people every day, why not have a week and kill white people?"
Don't ask me how "Kill Whitey Week" would strengthen the diversity ethic. I suppose that in the spirit of such "diversity" we should ask the KKK to burn a cross out in front of the SAC.
I spoke with several others who attended the event, and all had been greatly offended, not only by the speaker's inflammatory words, but by the overall level of intolerance by the crowd. At one point during the speech, a mother got up to take her young daughter out and was told, "go on and get the f--k out."
If this passes for diversity at U of L, I would hate to see their definition of intolerance.
Fifty-thousand dollars could be used for a lot of things - especially in a budget crunch - but I can't understand how paying a speaker to incite hatred among the audience does any good at all.
But perhaps white people are not meant to understand Sistah Souljah. "I don't make my work for you to interpret it," Souljah once revealed to Bill Moyers. "I make it for black young people so that they can understand that we are at war." Interviewed by the Washington Post, she said, "I don't think that anything we can do to white people could ever equal up to what they've done to us."
Diane Whitlock said of Souljah's message, "the views of the speakers on diversity will not necessarily reflect those of the university." We should certainly hope not.
Questions to people associated with the event s to the cost of bringing Sistah to campus have gone unanswered, and calls to her speaker's bureau were not returned.
Offensive as the racist t-shirt incident was, it provided the funding and impetus for bringing these diversity speakers to U of L. However, I can't see any real difference between "why a beer is better than a black man" and "why we should have Kill Whitey Week." Neither message belongs on this campus.

I had never heard of this woman before. It makes my blood boil to think that U of L had the audacity to have this hateful racist on campus. God only knows how much money was paid to this clown.
If you go to the link I posted and scroll down to the bottom of the page you will find a comments section. Read a couple of the comments from "Editorial Board of THE SOULution" (whatever the hell that is).
If you feel so inclined please leave a comment.

Unfortunately, this article doesn't describe the really sad part about this situation! It is that all the neocommunist, ultra-lefy wing racist demagogs associated with are congratulating themselves on a job well done. They and their hangers-on all made a couple of bucks and proved again that there are big bucks in racist diversity. A program well worth continuing! What other comments can we extort more cash by pretending to be righteously indignant?

Don't forget! It's only "racist" if a White person says it... /not
I think that babbling hate monger should have a conversation with Muhammad Ali... In the mid sixties he was thronged by communists in Rome who wanted to hear first hand his tales of suffering and oppression at the hands of the White Man and Ali responded "oppression? Hell if it wasn't for the White Man I'd be living in a grass hut and getting chased by alligators! But instead of that I'm a multi-millionaire!"

Perhaps this nitwit needs to be deported to wonderful old Africa.
I vote for the Congo.

What a crock. Blacks don't live in ghettos because of "white oppression." They do so partly because of the rap culture (which this woman is a part of) which is completely at odds with the promotion of honest, hard work and education. Forget the whole notion of disadvantages and adversity. I know immigrants (legal ones) that came over to this country with absolutely nothing and made a decent life for themselves through pure hard work.
*GASP!* I suppose this makes me a racist </sarcasm>
Also, what in the blazes is BankOne doing giving out T-shirts with that slogan? Absolutely inexcusable and inconsistent with its role as a banking institution.

Bank one screwed up when they gave out those t-shirts and almost had a small riot on their hands.
To make up for it they donated $50.000 to U of L for diversity studies. The school took the money and paid this racist to come lecture on hating whitey.

This actually attracted a good deal of attention in 1992--Bill Clinton criticized her at an event arranged by Jesse Jackson (which really ticked JJ off)...This was a very clever move on Beelzebubba's part to distance himself in the public mind from Jesse, and from the kowtowing to JJ by the Democratic nominees in 1984 and 1988.

I know many black Africans who would send her packing right back to USA. My best friend is Ghanian and she's sick and tired of seeing ceremonial dress and manners misued in the name of 'afrocentricity'. Plus my boyfiend who is white and from South Africa knows more and cares more about Africa than this washed up,hasbeen rapper ever will.

I strongly suspect they may have sponsored a college club that printed the tee shirts. Somehow I don't see them endorsing this and the money is damage control. I was in a 'black' sorority with a girl who was a carbon copy of Sister Souljah. She idolized her too. It's actually pathetic really. She talked about how much she hated white people. In fact, she had joined the sorority hoping to get away from annoying white girls. When I pointed out once in a debate if there is institutionalized racism why do many black foreigners come and be successes where Americans fail? I got this response(((crickets))) right before the name calling ensued.

Sometimes those severely afficted with ABS need more compassion than condemnation.
Take her for a cup of chamomile tea. She needs to calm down before she dies of a stroke like Khalid Mohammed did.

Yes indeed he did. Can't find the cite right now but he was approached by a bunch of Italian communists in the early 60's and shocked them all with that statement.
