Clint was the first name....he later joined the Coast Guard I heard. Last I spoke with him was 82 I think. I worked down there for my dad on a large water project at Jax Beach from June 78 till December 78.
We used to go to a bar in Atlantic Beach on the main drag that ran parallel to the beach. It was a long wooded and brass type bar with lots of glass and preppies...but very pretty Abercrombie looking girls. (grin)

indeed...like I said...a lot of us identified with them easily back then.
Ronnie was really a white bluesman at heart you know...very much so and rather unusual for his young age.
I don't think he made The Ballad of Curtis Lowe up did he?
I probably would count Simple Man or I Wanna Go Home(?) as my two favorites.
My older cousin from down there has a collection of old recording studio bootlegs that he ran off for me a few years ago. Lots of very different versions of standards like a very slow accoustic Free Bird and some stuff that never made it to vinyl....around 4 CDs worth.

It appears to me now that THE LEFT has really p*ssed off the SOUTH........Can u say Kentucky and Mississippi...!
How 'bout ZELL !
With THE LEFTIES trying to push a "SUPPORT FRANCE", "REMOVE IN GOD WE TRUST" and "GAY MARRIAGE" down the throats of the AMERICAN people...I see another civil war coming down the pipe!
To: wardaddy
Ronnie was a man's man.

From a fan site:
Have you ever wondered how they got their name? Wonder no more. They started out a in 1964 as "The Backyard Band." Later on while they were still playing in clubs they changed there name to the One Percent. It went on until around 1970 when they were playing in a club in Florida. As a joke they asked everyone to clap if they wanted them to change their name to Leonard Skinner. Now the joke was that Leonard Skinner was there high school coach. He would punish guys if they had long hair. As a joke Ronnie asked the audience to clap if they thought they should change their name. The audience clapped and roared so they changed their name but it turned out they liked the name so they changed the y's and such so that they would not get in too much trouble. That's how they became Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Could we throw in a little ZZ Top for good measure???
To: cyberaxe
You should check them out. An Athens, GA-based band from NW Alabama - these guys are truly the heirs to the Skynyrd legacy, three guitars and all. Check out "Southern Rock Opera", their 2000 double-album homage to southern rock and all things Skynyrd. Their most recent, "Decoration Day", also kicks major butt.
