Statement of J. Edward Pawlick, Attorney for Massachusetts Citizens for Marriage - November 18, 2003

The Massachusetts Supreme Court has now joined the Legislature and Governor Jane Swift in violating Massachusetts law. They have all refused to follow the state Constitution and allow the voters to decide gay marriage at the ballot box even though 130,000 people signed a petition to do so and all the necessary requirements were followed.

The Supreme Judicial Court told former Gov. Swift in an opinion on Dec. 20, 2002 that the Constitution had been violated by the Legislature and that she must act before Dec. 31, 2002, to see that a vote was held.

Now the SJC is joining in the illegal action.

I personally appeared before the SJC four times since October 2002 (twice before a Single Justice and twice before the full court) to counsel them on this matter and to warn that if they go against the will of the people, it could change our whole political structure in the state.

Today's decision is our answer because if they allowed the people to vote, they could not do what the Court is doing today. And of course, the Court understands that.

This all means that the foundation of our society has been decided by seven people -- all of them lawyers. That is sad. The overarching question they had to decide was who would make that momentous decision, the citizens or the lawyers?

The arrogance of these lawyers is without bounds. They know that the citizens are against gay marriage and the only way it will happen is to force it upon them.

We are witnessing the collapse of a once-great society, not from an invading army but from decay within.

The Chief Justice, Margaret Marshall, first came to this country from her native South Africa at age 24 and later made an alliance with the owners of The New York Times Company (the Sulzberger family where five members own all of that company's voting stock) by marrying its premiere columnist and family friend, Anthony Lewis. The Times Company had its subsidiary, the Boston Globe, push for Marshall's appointment without ever revealing its own conflict of interest. Now we see more of the results of the New York Times/Boston Globe power.

How the people react will be seen. But their outrage will be muted by the immense power of the five family-owners of The New York Times Company.

We have become a lawless society.

Liberal activist judges are a cancer to this country. It's why I think the GOP non-effort on appointments is very sad and destructive to the fabric of this country.

The Citizens of Massachusetts suffer at the hands of an interloper judge and Manhattan cocktail party ruling class.

That's how liberals get their way. None of their agenda would pass the voter smell test. They go around the voters, and the facist judges dictate from the bench.
It would be wise for the pro-America people to appeal this legislation. The communists goals are being completed one by one. America was warned the communist would come here and try to destroy our system from within, but we fell asleep and were not watching.
I hope this one slapped some American faces. Maybe now they'll understand what people have been trying to tell them. I sure hope so.

It's worse than that. The arrogance on display by the ruling judicial elite in Massachusetts is a microcosm to so-called "conservatives" who wish to do the same to Iraq in George W's Global Democratic Revolution.

Marxists, one and all.

That was a great line, indeed.

Captured my anger and frustration entirely.

Yeh yeh, it's all Bushs fault the queers are considered to be just like you.
Sorry, you can't blame George for this one, no matter how you try to spin it. He want's to stop it. Gays are not a good thing.
Most people have figured that out by now. Better late than never.

This one statement says it all. If the people in Mass. don't get mad when they hear this; then, I don't know what.

I am not blaming George, his arrogance is but a symptom of a generation so arrogant and who produced such a miserable anti-Western, anti-Christian, anti-liberty minded culture. While Reagan was the best of his times, perhaps George W is the best of his times, though with contemporaries like Bill Clinton, that would not say too much.

George is off building a Global Democratic Revolution at the same time you agree at least with the rhetoric that the nation is crumbling from within.

Until you make peace with this metaphysical inconsistency, conservatives, traditionalist, and sound republicans, will continue to lose on every meaningful front.

I like George Bush. I wouldn't want any other president at this time. The sheep are being seperated from the goats. The wheat from the tares. It has to be done.

If you support "Global Democratic Revolutions" I'd suggest you skip DU and go straight to Trotskyite.com.

Bush is a good man, so I support him. But being a good man does not make one a conservative or infalliable.

The Lord is setting the homosexuals (and the liberal minions as a whole) up for their fall. He's seperated the sheep from the goats. He's ready to gather the wheat, and throw the tares into the fire.

According to the analysis on Fox, the thirty states who have passed a "Defense of Marriage" law will not have to accept MA homosexual marriages. If you are unfortunate enough to live in the 19 other states, these perverted couples will have the same legal status as married couples in your state. I guess people should have been paying attention after Vermont's "civil unions" law was passed.
