SALT LAKE CITY (AP) -- Doc Rivers was fired as coach of the Orlando Magic late Monday night after the team got off to the worst start in its 15-year history.
Rivers told The Associated Press early Tuesday that Magic general manager John Gabriel told him of the decision in a meeting at the team hotel after Orlando lost to Utah 90-88 on Monday night.

I was at the Jazz game last night and Orlando is either a poorly coached team or has no chemistry. Their offense consisted of everyone getting the ball, then going one on one, sometimes going in the lane against three or four defenders, then looking surprised when they didn't score. T-Mac is good, but everyone else isn't.

Yeesh! And up here in NYC, I'm wondering how Don Chaney still has a job. The *only* thing that makes any sense is that he must have pictures of the Dolans and Scott Layden with farm animals and young boys.

Johnny Davis would be the team's interim coach. He is now the permanent coach.

Ever since it came out that Allan Houston and Charlie Wart (not a typo) are Jew-haters, I have actively rooted against the Knicks.

Let's be real, there are not a lot of jews in the NBA. Well, the Knicks almost had that Oded Katash guy from Israel.

So what? I don't see what the scarcity of Jewish players in the NBA has to do with Houston and Wart spreading that blood libel re: Jews killing Jesus.
Oh, and don't forget about Danny Schayes. ;)

I'll weigh in on this one:
1. Doc and assistant Dave Wohl were both let go.
2. John Goobriel, personnel dude, is trying to cover the fact that he is a goober and is the one that should be fired. He let Shaq get away with NOTHING IN RETURN, and the entire league is sprinkled with good players they could really use right now. And the dumba$$ is responsible for signing Grant Hill while on crutches which has set the franchise back 10 years.
3. Doc is a nice guy and its just like him to take the high road. However he let the players run the team. Last nights game was a microcosm of his tenure. When the MAgic still had a last shot at tie-ing the game, he allows T-Mac to take a 20 foot, fade-away jumper (very low percentage shot).
Its the easy way out. THis scenario was repeated throughout Doc's stay. Player's Coach= just not tough enough.

"the entire league is sprinkled with good players they could really use right now. "
Should read "good players who used to be on the Magic they could really u;se right now."

Time for Don Chaney to go. No, time for Dolan to sell Knicks.

Scott Layden has made a career of being an NBA genius with his picks of John Stockton and Karl Malone. You don't hear of his miserable failures out here in Utah, but there have been plenty and he left us with nothing for the future.

I never realized just how much I missed Dave Checketts until a couple of years ago...

1-10? Is anybody really surprised? It's a wonder he wasn't gone before now...(now if we can get a real coach here in Atlanta)
