We may differ in denomination, but you and I are of one mind on this subject.

During his earthly ministry, Christ would never have thought of telling a sufferer to go see a shrink. He healed them. And, He's just as capable of doing that today as He was 2,000 years ago. Just ask Him.

And what would you tell someone who tries this, and it doesn't work? That they just don't have enough faith? That God wants them to suffer?

I guess you never see doctors or dentists, yourself.

And since Jesus is so fond of parables:

One day, a preacher was stranded in his house during a flood. As the flood waters inched up to his porch, up to his doorstep and into his house, he prayed.

Two people came by his house in a rowboat and said, "Pastor, the floodwater's rising fast! You need to get in this boat, now!" The preacher told them, "The Lord is going to take care of me. I have complete faith in Him. You go on, now."

A few hours later, the flood waters had reached chest height inside the preacher's house, sending him to the second floor. Two more men came by in a boat. "Pastor, get in this boat NOW! The water is rising so fast, we won't be able to help you if you don't leave right now!" The preacher told them, "The Lord is going to take care of me! I'll be fine!" The two men gave up and sped off.

A few hours later, the flood waters had risen considerably and had gained strength, and a rescue crew in a helicopter found the preacher clinging to the roof of his house, half in and half out of the water. They lowered a ladder to the preacher, but he refused to grab hold of it. After several minutes of this, the winds picked up and the helicopter left.

About an hour later, the current got so strong that the preacher lost his grip and was swept away by the flood waters. Not too long after that, the preacher found himself at the Pearly Gates. St. Peter was standing there, staring at him incredulously. "What are you doing here? We didn't expect you so soon." The preacher said, "I can't understand it, either. I prayed for God to help me, and had total faith that he would save me."

Then St. Peter said, "We sent two boats and a helicopter after you, what more did you want?"

Christ also never told anyone to get MRIs, go into chemotherapy, have liver transplants, etc.

You cannot separate "mental health" from "physical health", unless you want to attempt to argue that the brain is not an organ of the body. Either all medical advances have been alloted to us by God, or we should all just pray whenever we get sick and forsake all of modern medicine. Which is it?

You're both right. The only source for "permanently good results" is the Lord Jesus Christ, His Holy Spirit, and His Word. A lot of preachers, pastors, and "ministers" are themselves pagans, and their "churches" are only storehouses, storing people for the lake of fire. Sad - but our Lord called them what they are - sons of hell.
