Prosecutors: Sniper Murder Suspect Tried Escape

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (Reuters) - Sniper suspect John Muhammad tried to escape after his arrest in a string of fatal shootings around Washington, D.C., and was put in solitary confinement, prosecutors said on Monday.

As the jury deliberated for a second day, lawyers for both sides in the capital murder case debated what kind of evidence could be presented at the penalty phase of the trial. If Muhammad is convicted, jurors must decide whether he should be executed or sentenced to life in prison.

Fox is reporting the jury has reached a verdict in the Muhammed trial.

My guess: guilty, guilty, guilty.

Scott Peterson's prelim has lasted longer than Muhammed's trial. I like efficiency.

Hopefully they'll scheduled sentencing for Tuesday afternoon, with execution - err, I mean punishment - scheduled for Friday evening. (Not a very good TV night, IMHO.)

I think Maryland and Alabama want a shot (pun intended) at trying Muhammed and Malvo. He'll be on death row far too long.
