[history]
November 17, 2003 -- U.S. forces got tough with Iraqi insurgents yesterday, carrying out operations in Baghdad and firing a satellite-guided missile with a 500-pound warhead at a guerrilla training base in central Iraq. Lt. Col. Bill MacDonald, a spokesman for the 4th Infantry Division, said it was the first time that a satellite-guided missile was utilized since major combat ended on May 1. At least 160 GIs have been killed since then.

One still has to wonder how much planning and logistics for this guerilla war, was carried out in the time that Powell (et. al.) squandered going back to the U.N. one last time, in an effort to appease our European "allies" and "loyal" opposition back here at home.

Need to release numbers of enemy killed. All we ever ehar about is the horrific numbers of US killed, I would like to see the numbers of terrorist killed, my guess, over 10,000 since the end of the war.

Baker, who served as a gunner and crew chief, returned to Iraq a week and a half ago after attending the funeral of his father, who died on Oct. 4. His last words to his mother were that she should not worry about him. What a double tragedy for this poor family. May God comfort them during their grief.

I dont believe Hussein planned for this at all, it is completely against his character to imagine not being freely in control of Iraq. I believe he expected no more than to be bombed, which he had prepared for with his network of bunkers and hideouts.
However, I can very well believe that others, like Syria, Iran, Hezbollah, A-Q, or other groups, DID plan for it, or at the very minimum executed existing plans for other conflict zones (i.e. Chechnya, Kosovo, Israel, Kashmir) in Iraq and dragged what they could rally of the smashed Ba'athist regime along with them.

Thanks, Coop. Amen, his poor mother.
Baker's uncle, Michael Ewing, said his nephew was itching to return to the Gulf to be with his fellow 101st Airborne Division Black Hawk crew.
"He told us when he left, 'We will get Saddam,' " Ewing told The Courier-Post of Cherry Hill., N.J.
Ewing said Baker had spent 10 months in Afghanistan during Operation Enduring Freedom, and helicopter crews regularly requested him as a gunner for missions.

The base was "pretty substantial" and was used by some mid-level leaders involved in plotting attacks, he said. It's a lot less "substantial" now.
