Inspired to do my job as a reporter... - Alex Ben BlockLOL!If this guy is a reporter, the woods are full of them.
He's plainly a fawning acolyte of the rich and famous who somehow got into print. - OldPossum
Well, at least he is "a fawning acolyte of the rich and famous who somehow got into print" with THIS story - about our FReep!Outside of the current article under discussion, the only other media attention that we have found - so far - has been this short EXCERPT from www.msnbc.com:
Rather, Friends team saluted Tribute part of the Museum of Television and Radio fundraiser By Cynthia Littleton
THE HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
LOS ANGELES, Nov. 11 The tributes flowed freely Monday night as the Museum of Television & Radio saluted a contemporary icon of broadcast journalism and three of the most successful sitcom writer-producers in recent memory during the organizations annual fund-raising gala. CBS DAN RATHER and the "Friends" creative brain trust of Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane were feted during the ceremony at the Beverly Hills Hotel, hosted by NBCs Jay Leno, for their contributions to the medium.
Like a good news reporter, CBS Rather kept his acceptance remarks short, sweet and to the point. The anchor and managing editor of the "CBS Evening News" thanked the crowd for implicitly recognizing "the importance of a free and independent American press" in honoring his work during the past five decades at CBS.
Even as a handful of protesters gathered outside the hotel with placards accusing Rather of betraying a liberal bias in his work, the veteran newsman told the audience inside that his guiding philosophy in his work had always been "to be accurate and to be fair as much as humanly possible and when theres heat, face the furnace and take it."
Now isn't that a scandal worthy of Peter Ginnings? You know if it was some Senator (correction: some conservative Senator) ABC would be all over this.
......but the internetwork news conspiracy requires that such stories be squelched. ---And it works!
The implication is that you said it, but he doesn't actually SAY that you said it.
This is a strange way of writing to say the least.
Unfortunately, I wasn't planning to do a completed video of this freep. Due to the low light, most of it didn't come out very well, and I have a horribly busy month. Let's just say I have to move in the next month or two, and since housing options are miserably bad, I'm having a very stressful time of it :-(.
Expect me to be back to normal by January or thereabouts :-(.
D
Thanks for posting the article.
You should email this thread to Mr. Block.LOL!
I e-mailed a link to BOTH Alex Ben Block and Dennis Prager LAST NIGHT - as soon as I posted this thread. :o)
(With copies to Doctor ZIn, Cinnamon Girl, Hugh Hewitt, and a few other FRiends.)After a short apology for possibly mischaracterizing what Dennis has said in the past about television news, I finished my message to him as follows:
Thank you, Dennis for providing much of the inspiration for our recent "FReep" of Dan Rather, which in turn, formed the foundation for Alex's article in Television Week. Your powerful article on "Dan and Saddam," your frequent commentaries on television news, and your daily exposition of moral clarity have influenced me more than you might know. Now, if we can just get YOU to promote Free Republic on YOUR radio program as regularly as our mutual friend Hugh Hewitt does, in the words of Rick from the movie "Casablanca," perhaps this can be "the beginning of a beautiful friendship." :)
Dennis Prager and Free Republic. Two of my FAVORITE "daily investments." :o)
Thank you, Alex, for writing such a good article - and THANK YOU, Dennis - for everything that you do!

Dan Rather Has Learned to Resist
[TV Week's Alex Ben Block discusses Free Republic, Dennis Prager] Excerpt:I asked Mr. Rather about it. "Part of being a journalist," he said, "and trying to be a journalist who pulls no punches and plays no favorites, who tries to be accurate and fair and who knows you are going to make your mistakes, is sometimes you have to face the furnace and take the heat."
Good ! Glad ya feel that way, Dan. Because I have something to say to you.
Being a Texan myself, and just so you'll know:
I'm ashamed that you are from Texas !!
Please let me know if you want ON or OFF my Texas ping list!. . .don't be shy.
No, you don't HAVE to be a Texan to get on this list!
You bet ! There's another one, a special one, just for Texans !! :O)
LOL !! That's how he's maintained his reputation for fair and accurate reporting ! ...
My kid talked about that FReep of Gray Davis in Inglewood for a couple of weeks. That would be THIS FReep:I think her favorite was the debate chicken, lol!
It is good to know that we are helping to mold "youngs skulls full of mush" - as MahaRushie calls them!To re-live THAT event, please check out daviddennis' FReep-report thread - with PICTURES!!!
FREEP REPORT: We Freep the Creeps [Bill Clinton & Davis] 10/28/2002!

A brave band of enthusiastic freepers were in Inglewood to freep ex-President Clinton and his equally sleazy sidekick, soon to be ex-Governor Gray Davis!
A crowd of about 30-40 people were hoisting signs and banners, making a lot of noise in the process! And, as always, we got tremendous support from the traffic, with tons of honks and expressions of sympathy for the cause.
Unfortunately, thanks to tight security, we were unable to get anywhere near the actual event. It looks like they got a little smarter with this event - the venue had massive fences around it, and the event was about in the middle. The crowd of 1,000 (surely not that big for the likes of Clinton) was swallowed up by the enormous property, so it's likely that we couldn't have gotten much attention even if we had been allowed free movement.
Loud chanting of our favourite slogans - Hey Hey, Ho, Ho, Gray Davis Gotta Go!, DUMP DAVIS NOW, and many others made sure there was no doubt abbout the intensity of our support!
The star of the show was surely Monica Lewinsky...

Huh? Our Jim Robinson?Nope.
Different guy.
