Ed Asher as Santa sells. I only drop about half a million dollars from last week to another 30+ million dollars. Master and Command is second with about 25 Million. Martix drops big and Love Actually "Rolling Opening" works as it earns more money this week as it opens in more threaters.

Isn't this a major letdown for the latest Russell Crowe movie? Even A Beautiful Mind, perhaps the only hit since Gladiator, didn't fare all that well at the box office (despite its Ron Howard luster). Perhaps Crowe should have left a married woman / mother alone 3 years ago (Meg Ryan)? It's tougher rallying behind the guy now. At least it is for me.

I was listing to the box office guru's on WGN today, and the felt "Master and Command" would be the box office winner.
Could they be wrong, again?

Well I think a lot of the younger guys who watch SNL with Will went to see Martix last week and going to Elf this week.
But next week Cat In The Hat opens.

I saw Master & Commander this weekend and was very impressed (except for all the shots of the ship cruising with gunports open and guns run out). It'll be getting good word of mouth from me.
They did change the nationality of the priavateer Acheron's crew from American to French out of deference to American sensibilities (and box-office reality), but that didn't hurt the story.
