Were these your run-of-the-mill campus leftists who were insulted by Dean pandering to rednecks, or were they themselves rednecks insulted by Dean's pandering to them in disdainful and stereotypic terms?

Unlike most Ivy League campuses, you can find both types at Dartmouth. The administration is uniformly full of the usual academic Gramscian filth, and the faculty nearly so, but the Right is still very much alive among the Dartmouth student body.

The administration has moved beyond touchy feely diversity and date rape seminars and is actively trying to shut down the fraternities. Over time, belonging to a men-only, straight-only (or God forbid, Christian-only) fraternity will become punishable by expulsion. Probably they will have to go underground just as they had to do in the early years before 1900.

But the pendulum always swings back. The hippies in coats & ties who run college campuses today forget that. We don't. We'll crush the bastards some day.

These guys were actually conservatives, poking fun at Dean. One of them contributes regularly to the Dartmouth Review, which is a kickass conservative student paper at this nuthouse.

Just so, and to include Libertarians, as well, not easily pigeonholed in either category. Indeed, Free State Project founder Jason Sorens was a Dartmouth polit sci student when he came upo with his idea of moving 20,000 like-minded L/libertarians into New Hampshire to tip the outcomes in several key Granite State counties. And he's now a Dartmouth instructor....
