"he'll lose my vote"

Then we'll have a Clinton or Clintonlike candidate who'll take away all guns.

Smart.... very smart..... not!

Maybe. Maybe not.

If Bush loses because he signed it, will the dem, KNOWING this, push for more gun grabs.
1. The dem will get hit for it by the GOP, even by those that aren't really pro, but see a partisan wedge.
2. The dem will gun grab himself into a one termer.
3. If Bush signs a gun grab and wins election, Rove will say "You signed a gun grab...and they voted for you anyway. Time for more triangulation to take the dem issues away from them"

No, what we'll have is a Republican party that only seems to advance conservative principles when they are the party out of power. A Democrat president wouldn't get jack passed. Too bad the Republicans turned into Socialists when they finally achieved the power they've (we've) been working for for so long.

No, that happened on
the first day of Bill's term two...
Remember, he sent

the national guard
door-to-door taking our guns?
Oh, or was that just

panic mongering
using Clinton's name back then?
Every time freepers

continue to use
that name to jerk peoples' knees,
we look like we're nuts...

Or die trying.

I have the same line in the sand. If AWB does not go 'Tango Uniform' - I 'll vote for the Constitution or Libertarian candidate.

If GWB renews or extends the ban, why does he deserve our vote?

Would you tell your wife or girlfriend that you will stay with her even if she cheats on you?

Why would you stay with a president that takes your freedom from you?

You would prefer to lose your rights a little at a time? Or would you prefer a President who abolishes the 2nd completely thereby bringing about a revolt? Don't forget the purpose of the 2nd, it's not so we can go duck hunting!

Gun owners are to the Republican party as Blacks are to the Democrats. Taken for granted because they believe they have no where else to go.

Until we take a stand, we will have no power.

The obvious problem is that by taking a stand we elect those opposite our intentions. If that "gets their attention", it may be worth the price.

And Bush also said he'd veto concurrent receipt for disabled veterans until they reminded him that without their votes he'd probably lose.

Same applies here. The threat of simply not voting may be enough. That's perhaps why we have a secret ballot.

No, what we have is a faster road to the eventual destination. The AWB won't make it to Dubya's desk because it will be dead in the House. If it makes it to Dubya's desk and he signs it I will never ever vote for a single Republican again.

Better to get it out in the open than have them taken away piecemeal.

If Bush reauthorizes this, I won't vote at all, let alone for any Republican.

Howard Dean is poised to win the Democrat nomination. His position on guns seems little different from Bush's -- they'll enforce existing laws but don't want any more -- so I think your concern is excessive. In fact, as Republicans seem to defend many of our rights better when in opposition than when in power, it's possible that gun rights would be better protected under Howard Dean as president with a Republican Congress.

There's a further consideration: As the assault weapons ban is due to expire, "extending" or "renewing" is, in actuality, passage of a new gun control law. That's because without action the law would not exist at the end of the term. So if the ban is reconstituted, a fair comparison of candidates Bush and Dean could easily suggest the latter is more worthy of the second amendment vote.

Fortunately, it's not too late for Bush to do the right thing, so let's encourage him to do so.

Don't you just hate these single issue voters?

They are always cutting their own throats.
