I am praying for Carly and her Mom and little unborn sibling too.

I second VOA's suggestion about the House Institute, as I suggested once before. My mom used to be an audiologist there.

WHATEVER WILL BE, it will all be OK. I know it will. Your daughter is perfect and a child of G-d no matter what. Everything is going to be OK.

As to getting aid in covering your hearing aids (if needed), I'm sure that there are some charities that do provide low cost or no cost solutions.

When I was with Compaq and heavily pressured to give to the United Way, I selected the charities on the list that I gave to (which may not have been much of a solution since they may have shorted those charities out of the "general fund"). I did not do deep research on these agencies either.

I will say that I targeted my money to deaf charities. I figured that between hearing aids and sign language training the funds would do some good.

The money is out there, you just need to find it (I don't even think that it carries financial distress tests).

We will keep Carly on our prayer list. Hearing aids vary widely in cost and quality. You may want to do more research on this. I have friends that have tried more expensive ones and liked the less expensive ones better. Hopefully they'll let you try out a variety. You would think there would be leasing options too. I think the hearing aide market is ripe for reform.

Thanks for the update. On the hearing aid, I urge you to do some research online before committing to that kind of outlay. This is one area in which people are HORRIBLY HORRIBLY HORRIBLY gouged, by being convinced by local outfits and doctors that this is "just what they cost."

I'm in need of a hearing aid myself and have done some preliminary research. There's a new soft hearing aid out there, getting rave reviews, that costs something like $500 each the first time, then $40 per replacement every few months. It's sorta like the disposable soft contact concept. Your post reminded me that I need to get back on this issue for myself.

A young woman who works for me every week or so is very hard of hearing due to a genetic defect. None of us is sure why - perhaps Agent Orange. She wears exterior aids, not in the ears.

I can somewhat relate to your feelings. My one yo son failed his audial hearing tests right through about six months (he has Down Syndrome so his ear canals are extremely small). I know the fears and feelings well. In our case, as his ears grew and developed his hearing has gotten increasingly better. I hope that your results are as positive.

I am very sorry for not giving everybody and update and thanking you from the bottom of my heart. Your prayers made all the difference in the world and PRAYER HAS TRULY SUSTAINED US THROUGH MY DAUGHTER'S ORDEAL.

To give you an update my daughter is now 5 years old and going into Kindergarten next year. She has hearing aids and is doing well with them. Her neural hearing loss has not gotten any worse (THANK GOD!) Right now it looks like she will be able to hear reasonably normal with her hearing aids. In order to get some special aid in school, she would have to classified as handicapped. We have decided against this right now until we find out how well she does in kindergarten. Since she did so well in her pre-school last year, we have decided to put her in school like a normal student.

We have had a lot of doctor appointments and she had some blood tests come back that had us worried for a while until we went for some extensive testing. It looks like the only thing that she has had a problem with is her hearing loss.

God provided $5,000 for the hearing aids and I have a great job right now with good health insurance. God has sustained us and I have reflected on the peace that God gives you through trying times. It is awesome and is a direct result of personal and intercessory prayer.

If you have any prayers that I can lift up please don't hesitate to ask me. I would be priveleged to pray for you.
