Maybe it was just time for God to take him home because it was God's will that the South lose, and with him, they may well have won.
Since this is just what I said, I'm glad we agree that God favored the Union side in the Civil War.

Not so fast...Lincoln clearly believed that God was judging the ENTIRE NATION in that war - read his 2nd inaugural. The Union also lost and suffered greatly - it was a pyrrhic victory. The Union invaded the South - they were the aggressor. I agree with Jefferson Davis that Union is voluntary and not coercive, otherwise our founding ideals aren't worth the paper they are printed on.
