Here are the close races: (Less than 5% difference between Bush and Gore. WV does not fall into that category.)
State Bush Share Gore Share Margin
Florida 48.85% 48.84% 0.01%
New Mexico 47.85% 47.91% 0.06%
Wisconsin 47.61% 47.83% 0.22%
Iowa 48.22% 48.54% 0.32%
Oregon 46.52% 46.96% 0.44%
New Hampshire 48.07% 46.80% 1.27%
Minnesota 45.50% 47.90% 2.40%
Missouri 50.42% 47.08% 3.34%
Ohio 49.97% 46.46% 3.51%
Nevada 49.52% 45.98% 3.54%
Tennessee 51.15% 47.28% 3.87%
Pennsylvania 46.43% 50.60% 4.17%

Here is my point. Of the five states where the Bush and Gore share of the vote was less than 1%, Gore won 4 of them and three of them (WI, NM and FL) were determined late. Gore won two of those and fought to the end for the third. My Source, BTW
