Ten-year-old dies in house fire, chained to bed

Clarksville, Arkansas-AP -- The parents of a ten-year-old girl have been arrested on manslaughter charges after their daughter died in a house fire, allegedly chained to a bed by her ankles.

Investigators in Clarksville, Arkansas, say the blaze was accidental. The parents and their other two children made it out of the house before it burned to the ground. But a deputy says when authorities arrived on the scene, the father said he couldn't get the girl out.

Firefighters found the girl's body in her bedroom under debris where the roof collapsed. Investigators also found a chain and padlock they believe secured her to the bed.

The parents were questioned -- but there's no word on their explanation. They're jailed on 100-thousand dollars bail each.

Warning. One should look over the edge of the cliff before jumping.

Anymore, with parents lacking authority, influence of the media, children, especially 10 year old girls, can be quite a problem.

This may have been a tactic to deal with a child that sneaks out at night.

Not that it was a good tactic, but it may not have been the child imprisonment scenario that the mind jumps to.

Let's find out the facts before rushing to conclusions.

It might have been a tactic, but it's an illegal tactic. Looks like imprisonment to me. What else could it be?

There are no conclusions to jump to.

Nail her window shut, and put an alarm on the from and back doors. That would be legal, where as cuffing her to the bed frame is not!!

I have my guesses and judgements too. Since the parents were taken in and have a high bail, I suspect foul play.

I was just saying, let's find out the facts first.

In what way? All I said is that I would like to know the facts before the parents are hung from a rope in city square.

We just had a child abuse case in my county this past week. Two aunts were arrested for tying down and hitting their niece. The prosector mentioned the fact that the girl was tied down and that's why the aunts have high bail.

I get your point. It's just cuffs are extreme, I think. Do people really do that to restrict their children?

You can't defend the indefensible. There is no excuse under the sun for parents to chain their kid to a bed. The facts are what they are. The parents chained their daughter to a bed. There is no excuse for it.

This may have been a tactic to deal with a child that sneaks out at night.

Whether you meant to or not, you said that it is okay to chain a child to a bed because some children sneak out at night. That is what is revolting. If you did not mean to imply that, then please set the record striaght.

There simply is no civilized reason to ever, ever, ever, ever chain or tie a child to an object. I don't even want to think for a second the unbelievable terror that poor child suffered.

To even suggest that there may be a possible makes me hope and pray that you never are blessed with a child.
