I thought FR had rules about porn.....

Sorry. I was carried away in a moment of wild, passionate abandon.

Ah, had it only been a redhead....

Turns out Ford's too young, only 35 or 36.

Younger. His birthday's on 5/11/1970.

And note that I wrote that column in the first week of January, before Howard Dean, who will now fill the role of the meaningful loser. Or else preside over the complete destruction of the Democrat party (we can hope, can't we?).

Unless someone starts spreading the rumor that Harold Ford and Jodie Foster are an item about the same time they start letting John Hinckley out on weekends.

I rode a red 900 Kawa in '79, it was the model with low pipes that dragged the pavement when cornering ~ five of went on a ride in the Berkeley hills and traded bikes ~ it was fast in straight line, only. :)

I had a '79 GS500 Suzuki that had Duer (sp) cams, Mikuni's off of a GS1000, air forks, Works Performance rear shocks ~ it was the fastest of the lot on the twisties. :)

I traded in on a '81 GS1100EX Suzuki, the best all around road bike I ever owned, I rode it for 10 years and never had a single problem with it ~ except for eating rear tires. :)

I did have a green bike, it was a '74 Kawa KX400 MX bike, I took the little green gas tank off and installed one of those clear platic enduro tanks so that I could make a 50 mile loop on the fire roads. :) Damn fine dirt bike!

I find it approbiate for the President to use Kerry's photo op picture of him (Kerry) riding on a borrowed Harley for his ad, since French looking candidate John F. Kerry (Vietnam Veteran) uses President Bush's photo op picure of his landing on the USS Lincoln in his political ad.

Did you hear his quip today about firing Jordan as his campaign manager? It was somethiing to the effect that he (Kerry) did what Little should have done with Pedro.

It was the most classless comment I have heard in a long time. I was indifferent to Kerry until today. I wouldn't vote for him if my life depended on it. What an incredibly insensitive ass.

ANYthing he likes. But it's green, of course. And likely NOT a Kawasaki.

Back inb the mid-1960s, when the Chicago/Milwaukee Outlaws was a regional club just then beginning to expand into Louisville and Florida and other Southern venues, a couple of their chapters had localized versions of the then-popular 1964 hit by the Kingsmen entitled, simply enough, Jolly Green Giant. Though then a teenager, I got along with them well enough, maybe in part because of the green Indian 74" Chief I was riding back then. But I think my next one will be blue, maybe black or Indian Red.

In duh valley of duh jolly (ho-ho-ho) Wow!
Heard about the Jolly Green Giant (potatoes).
He's so big and mean (artichoke hearts)
He stands there laughing with his hands on his hips
And then he hits you with a can of beans

He lives down here in his valley (Brussels sprouts).
The cat stands tall and green (spinach)
Well, he ain't no prize, and there's no women his size,
And that's why the cat's so mean
One day he left his valley pad.
I mean to say, this cat was mad
Now listen 'round, he wasn't gone long and then he ran into an Amazon
Well, this changed his whole complexion (broccoli).
He had never seen such a beautiful sight (corn)
Well, he looked at her and she looked at him
And she almost passed out from fright
He looked at her, thought, "what a dilly!"
He touched her once; she slapped him silly
This was something he had never sensed.
He looked at her as she commenced
Now listen, pal, this ain't no fluke.
"I can't see goin' with a big green kook"

You've heard about the Jolly Green Giant (eggplant).
Don't let his troubles cross your mind (celery stalks)
He couldn't get Sally, so went back to his valley,
The cat was color-blind. (carrots) (canned beans)

(The Jolly Green Giant song is based on the Olympics'
"Big Boy Pete", by Don Harris and Dewey Terry;
parody lyrics by Lynn Easton)

Mud flaps and all on that green Indian Chief. :)
Do you still have it?

I've never heard that Jolly Green Giant tune by the Kingsman ~ in fact I've never heard the Kingsmen. :)

That one's a '48 sidecar rig, mine was a '47, closer to John Deere green. Nope, that was my second Indian, traded on a new Triumph 500 I got for my senior year in high school. I want a '48 though, arguably the best year version up to the '52 and '53 models. But I think the '48 I get will be Royal Blue, if not Duco black or Indian red.

Sure you've heard 'em, you just don't realize it: Louie, Lou-eye, oh, oh, we gotta go now....

What do you think of the Indian MC company going TU ~ I think it's bad management.

I've been a big band jazz, progressive jazz and bebop fan since the late 40's. As far as singing groups, I can think of three that I liked: Four Freshman, Hi-Lows and Lambert, Hendricks and Ross ~ after Ross left they had another female who's name I've forgotten.

One bar that I hung out in the late 50's and early 60's had a juke box with the complete Kenton Era plus, on it. :)

Amazingly and ironically, Indian repeated several of the same errors as the original Chicopee Falls Mass. management of Indian Motors at the midpoint of the last century. Their bikes had teething difficulties to be sure, and they failed to offer original or affiliated low-end entry level bikes, sending potential customers to Japanese manufacturers, Harley 883 Sportsters, and the reconstituted British Triumph products. At least they didn't sell the factory to foreign investors this time, [yet!] so maybe something can yet be salvaged from the mess.

My dad was a fairly well-known slide trombone player in some of those circles, moreso in Dixieland and Bebop. Ward Kimball of the Firehouse Five was a sometime family dinner guest, as was trombonist Bob Brookmeyer, at one time the trombonist for Doc Severensen's tonight show band in the days when Johnny Carson hosted. Though dad's profession was that of an oil industry refining engineer and draftsman, he actually made more money- and had more fun- playing his 'bone. As well as a couple of stints as a Musicians' Union treasurer and business agent. I had my first musicians union card [drummer] at age 8, playing in Havana casinos while dad was an engineer at the CalTex/Texaco refinery in Santa Clara.

I know where there's one with such included, though not exclusively so, with Andrews Sisters and Kay Kaiser tunes as well. Still six plays for a quarter....

It would be a shame for the Indian name to disappear again ~ yes, putting all of their eggs in one basket with basically one bike is a handicap.

Woody Herman, Stan Kenton and Maynard Ferguson always had great slide trombone playing sidemen ~ Maynard played/plays a pretty mean valve trombone when he wasn't/isn't on his trumpet ~ but, valve trombone doesn't sound as good as the slide piece. :)

(Bill Harris was my all time favorite trombone player.)

Wow, it sounds like you've had an interesting life: drumming at 8 in a Havana casino ~ at 8, I was hoeing weeds on the farm and at 9, I was driving a tractor. :)

Bob Brookmeyer http://www.bobbrookmeyer.com/ has always swung ~ read his bio, it's great ~ he got sober about the time I did and like him, I'm still crazy. :)
