Well, Freepers it's going to be a looooooooooong day in the senate today, tonight, Thursday, and I'm guessing into Friday.

I figure we'll need a LIVE thread for this.

Looks like Tom Daschle is going to be speaking at 8:45am this morning followed by Frist at 9:11am

"When that day comes, we will need to protect the Constitution against liberal judges who think of the Bill of Rights the way a German thinks of speed limits on the Autobahn."

What an odd metaphor;
the autobahns have speed limits all over the place - at cities, curves, hills, etc.
And Germans seem to love it, since The Government tells them it's for their own good.

Specter actually said he "wants to hear from the people?"

What the devil does he THINK we were telling Washington in '00 and again in '02?

Doesn't he pay attention even a little bit?

Dammit Man! He doesn't want to hear from the American people! He wants to hear from the Scottish people! After all its their laws he applied for Impeachment!

Now that's odd. I thought the Autobahn had no speed limits. Fell for an urban legend, I suppose.

Be Seeing You,

Chris

Let me clarify to be fair to him. He was saying that he wanted to hear from the people on what they thought about this marathon. My wise @$$ comment was because as the poster I replied to said, 'ol Arlen isn't as entertaining for me as some of the previous speakers were. And if you saw that vest that the dog Billie's master was wearing last night, you would understand why it had Specters name all over it. ;-)

Going great--what fun! Just got back from the morning session and will head back over soon for more lies, obstruction and general BS from the Dems. When leaving the Senate, Ed and I almost tripped over the diminutive dolt Barbara Mikulski and bumped into Kay Bailey Hutchison who was looking classy as usual.

Didn't bring cookies but enjoyed the always-delicious Amtrak cuisine on the way down. See you tomorrow Sis--may need a ride from the train station.

Doh!!! -- Will your train stop at Noroton Heights???? Much easier to pick up from there. Let me know. Also, loved your article today. By the way, I wonder if we still have "Uncle Harry's" Nehru jacket!!! Being so young at the time, I (thankfully) barely remember his attempt at hipness -- how disturbing it must have been.

Will probably not need a ride, but thanks anyway. Think Harry's jacket went the way of the 'black hole of Middlebury'. The hipness attempt was actually cute...for about 5 minutes!

DU hit that poll a whole, whole lot harder than we did and Senator Lautenberg (D, NJ) had the webpage enlarged and displayed on the Senate floor this afternoon in an attempt to embarrass Senator Frist.

Web polls are notoriously inaccurate but people who don't spend a lot of time on the internet may not be aware of it. I would hope that the Republicans learn from this and tell their website designers to eliminate them in future (puh-lease!).

I gotta tell you, as I listened to him today, that I was so thankful Lautenberg wasn't my Senator. His remarks politicizing the plight of our wounded and deceased soldiers were absolutely repugnant to me.

This charade is pretty sad. Even the republican senators have said that it will accomplish nothing substantial as far as the judicial nominees are concerned.
The real problem is that the GOP cannot muster 51 votes to change the filibuster rules. Why? Because we have embraced this big tent view where we welcome anyone regardless of what they believe. Like Ahnold. And when it counts, like it does now, we can't get the votes. Because it comes down to the fact that these nominees that are being rejected because they are proLife. On the Hannity show one repubican senator said that "We are 12 votes short of 51". Hummm. That means we have 39 real republicans and 12 RINOS.
That means almost one third of the GOP is not really Republican, but instead swing votes.
I guess this is why they waited more than half way thru Bush's term to do something like this in the senate. Because even though they have 51 votes on the books the GOP only really has 39.

In the convention in New York it is important to establish a litmus test for entrance into the GOP. Or we will continue to be a paper tiger.

Do you still have to stand out in the cold for an hour or so and be escorted into the Senate in little groups? Need a pass from a Senator's office? Please advise....

Read how the LIBERAL media distorts the news. Filibuster, what filibuster? According the Houston Chronicle, they need 60 votes to confirm these judges.

All-nighter adds drama to today's judicial vote……Republican members of the Senate, who have repeatedly been unable to muster the 60 votes needed to confirm the trio, have been talking in shifts since early Wednesday evening, calling attention to what they believe is Democratic mistreatment of Bush's judicial picks……..With a split of 51 Republicans, 48 Democrats and one independent, collecting the 60 votes needed on each of the three disputed nominees has repeatedly proven impossible for Republicans. ***

We were lucky. The lines were never very long (maybe 20 or so) and were confined to the 3rd floor gallery itself. Passes were granted right at the North entrance to anyone without any prior Congress critter pass. The Sgt at Arms gave orders to the police to make it easy to gain access. Gallery rules were stringent though.

It should've been Senator Doug Forrester(R) in there, but our state supreme court saw fit to change the law to get him into office!!

I missed the Louse, but I'm sure my imagination can capture the rest.
