The disappearance and murder of Chandra Levy remains one of this area's most notorous mysteries.
In a News4 exclusive, the lead investigators speak candidly about the case with Joe Krebs.
The known facts of this case are few.
Chandra Levy was last seen the night of April 30th, 2001, and was, apparently, in her apartment the next day.
"It appears that she was on her computer early afternoon of May 1, and then she logs off. Then it's, of course, a year and three weeks later that we find her remains in Rock Creek Park," recalled FBI Agent Brad Garrett.
Her remains were found down that hill, not far from this Western Ridge hiking trail. This path is in a park in the middle of the Nation's capital, but it feels very isolated, like a place where someone could kill someone and not be seen or heard.
"I would say that your odds were fairly good, if you're the offender in this case, of someone not actually physically seeing you just because you're so secluded here," said Garrett.
Garrett was on the scene, with D.C. Police officers, the day her remains were found.
"Where clothing is at and what shape and form it's in, whether it's turned inside out or not. All those things tell me something about what went on here," said Garrett.
Something, perhaps, but apparently not much.
"In actuality, we don't know exactly what happened to her, what precipitated her death," said Sgt. J.C. Young.
In fact, they don't even know how she died.
"Well, we've been in constant contract with the medical examiner's office and we're still attempting to get the actual autopsy report from the medical examiner's office," said Young.
