Billionaire Bankrolls Bush Bashers (Soros Alert)

Billionaire George Soros has pledged $15.5 million to efforts to unseat President Bush in an election that he sees as a "life and death" struggle to defeat the administration's "supremacist ideology," a newspaper reports.

"America, under Bush, is a danger to the world," the 74-year-old Soros tells The Washington Post. "And I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is."

Calling the 2004 race "the central focus of my life" and comparing the president's ideology to what he witnessed in Nazi occupied Hungary, Soros is fueling attacks on the president that campaign finance reform might have prevented, The Post reports.

Last year's soft-money ban is starving the national parties of the cash they once used to finance advertising and door-to-door campaigns. Soros is filling the gap by donating to independent groups bent on defeating the president, like MoveOn.org, to which he and a partner pledged up to $5 million this week.

He has also raised money directly for former Vermont governor and Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean, and supports Democratic runners Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, retired Gen. Wesley Clark and Rep. Richard Gephardt of Missouri.

Republicans see irony in Soros, who has spent millions promoting open societies abroad, is helping Democratic adherents skirt campaign finance laws.

"George Soros has purchased the Democratic Party," Republican National Committee spokeswoman Christine Iverson told The Post.

Campaign finance advocates have also expressed concerns over Soros' spending, The Post reports.

Soros says his motivation is deeply personal, the result of deep anxieties over the nation's direction that sometimes wake him at 3 in the morning. The Post quotes the billionaire comparing the president's phrase "You're either with us or against us" in the war on terrorism, to Nazi slogans he saw in his childhood Hungary, like "The enemy is listening."

Soros also believes Mr. Bush feels "anointed by God."

In his efforts, Soros has been allied with former Clinton chief of staff John Podestra and liberal heavyweights. Soros' willingness to part with massive sums has spurred other wealthy people to ante up as well — the day after Soros offered $10 million to Americans Coming Together, five friends donated an additional $13.5 million to the group.

This is not the first year Soros has been generous with campaign funds. According to a database run by the Federal Election Commission, between 2000 and 2002 Soros gave $153,000 in soft money to the Democratic National Committee in three massive installments.

Since 1998, he donated $125,000 directly to candidates and committees. Except for one $1,000 check to Republican Arizona Sen. John McCain, it all went to Democratic candidates or PACs that favor Democrats.

i hope he spends a 100 million this year. it will cut his wealth, prove that money does not buy happiness and make lots of RATS sick cause they think all they need is money. What they need they can't buy honesty!! What they have nobody in the blue states wants...disdain for american values.

Listen to President Bush talk about vets today and you see a man who is proud of a vet and believes that sacrific is what you do to help your fellwo man.

A true believer knows that no greater gift is given but that you lay down your life for your fellow man. soldiers, sailors, marines and airmen have done their share of missionary work.

imo, Soros is a god send to the Republicans.

The media only can see the hype of his dollars and how it will impact the race. The trouble is this guy is a not a Warren Buffett - if Buffett is the one do the donations, then all bets are off.

Look at Soros and where he stands on issues -

He believes the "open society" - translation UN is better than the US constitution, let the thugs of France, Libya and Syria run our affairs instead of our elected officials;

Legalization of Pot;

He made his money from the ill fortunes of others - the collapse of the English Pound, and he is now betting the US dollar short - translation to the public, Soros is making his money from betting the stock market to go lower, your dollars losing value (and there are 95 million of you people holding stocks)

Soros was the scammer causing the Asian meltdowns in 1997-1998.

Soros is now trying the play of a loonely, have nothing better to do billionaire to buy the election (Ross Perot has long been credited for the Clinton win in 1992, and most Republicans don't forget that easily).

So, tell me, how a guy like him, betting America to fail, betting UN better than the US constitution, betting legalization of Pot, making fortunes on the backs of the poor can possibly win his arguments in the South?

He maynot be running the race, but the media do us a great deed to expose his "goals", by doing so, Soros himself is now the lightning rod.

Ole, one more thing, there are just as many Rich Billionaires in the Republican Circles ready to join the fray, afterall, Prez. Bush is from Texas - lots of oil money and computer money there.

Ironically,I'd trade a Soros with Howdee Jimmy Dean than a John Kerry with the Heinz fortune anyday. Afterall, it is more difficult to attack Teresa Heinz (with 500 million bottles of formula 57) than a George Soros by all accounts.

Look a layer deeper and you will see this Soros thing is not such a bad deal for the Republicans.

There is a silver-lining to every cloud for us out there, but for dims, it is one minute to midnite with neither the moon nor the stars guiding them.

One thing that Bush has in common with Soros is the democratization of the world but for different reasons. Soros thinks that democratization will offer him more opportunities for creating wealth. Bush thinks that forceful democatization will establish a world goverment that he can control with the superb military we have now. One is economic power, the other is political power and then economic advantage.

>> "America, under Bush, is a danger to the world," the 74-year-old Soros tells The Washington Post <<

Soros has it all wrong, like most liberals. The world was a dangerous place long before GWB came into office, deal with it Soros. Bush is just fighting back. If that makes the world a more dangerous place, so be it. It makes our enemies world a more dangerous place. That’s a GOOD thing.

We didn't ask for this war. The weenie in the WH from ’92 – ’00 appeased these murderous vermin for 8 years and that didn't make the world any safer. It made this country vulnerable to attack.

War brings peace. After 9.11.01, I'm through with peace for a while. I really wish it weren't so. I cannot understand people who talk of peace after 9.11.01. Do they hate America or are they just dense?

To answer my own question, maybe both. It’s people like Soros who are going to get more innocent Americans killed on our own soil. Every time I read the transcripts of the last phone call from some of the victims I still cry, maybe always will. People like Soros need to be made to listen to these records EVERY DAY.

Now I’m mad. I’d really like to punch this jerk in the face.

I find it repulsive to have Soros and Bush being mouthed in the same sentence!

Soros is a worm feeding on economic chaos - look at the damages he caused in the late 90s during the economic meltdowns in thailand, malaysis, south korea, indonesia. The only country on the face of this planet that had caused Soros to lose his pants is Hong Kong. He bet against the Hong Kong dollar in sept 1998, he publically say so to instill fear and chaos in that city. He thought he could win another round after the thais, the malays, the ruskies all fallen to him, but in the most unexpected move, the hong kong government, at the peak of the panic, come out and used the vast money reserve of the city to buy all the bluchip stocks in the HK stock mkt, creating one of the most spectacular short coverings ever known. Soros thought the hk govn will not interfer the stock mkt, instead the hk folks will waste its dollar in defending the currency, but he was wrong. The media got the scoop of the story and hyper it to the public how some foreigners, scammers wanna destroy their livelihoods like he did to thai, malay and south korea. The public join the govn in a buying frenzy of the stk mkt to defend the city. At the end, Soros lost his pants in betting against hk.

the lesson to learn here is Soros is a very contraversial figure, he may have deep pockets, but his scams are well known WORLDWIDE, all it takes is Soros to be the lightning rod himself, once he is the focus instead of his cause as the focus, he could be defeated very easily. The likes of Soros is exactly what will make the South a graveyard for the dems - legalizing pot, thinking UN is a better option to run our affairs, currently shorting the US dollar so he can benefit from any drop in our stk mkts and currency - so what is his intention - betting for a weak, chaotic america so he can benefit financially? The voters can decide, a linkage of such beeting America is no good, America can't keep its military might, America should be placed under the UN charter rulings - then they can vote for Soros errr Dean. It is just that simple.

Soros made his billions speculating on currency trading, obviously with the benefit of "special insights" into the policy moves of central banks, like the U. S. Fed. Knowing that the Fed was going to continue its deflationary actions during the late '90s would have allowed Soros to recognize that the SE Asian currencies tied to the dollar would be crushed by the deflation, what with all their debt incurred to expand their economies.

Now Soros is concerned that GWB may be waking up to the idiocy of a floating dollar and floating exchange rates. Having a dollar with a value that changes everyday makes as much sense as playing a football game with a yardage chain that changes length from moment to moment. A dollar with a stable value would take away Soros' money machine. That is why he is now an active Democrat; not because he favors marijuana or "world peace."

From what I've learned on this thread, Soros got rich by ripping off entire countries. After learning about this I now see what is motives really are: to make himself richer and America weaker. A punch in the face is way to kind for this type of person (and I use the term person loosely). Forum rules prevent me from stating what I'd like to do to him (no violence).

btw - Happy Veterans Day! Thanks for your service. It's heroes like you who make this country great!

I am not familiar with the AZ gov Race last yr and how divided the field among the GOP candidates were (look at KA and OK last yr, you see what I mean).

As for Soros, the biggest lesson to learn from the SE Asians NOT to be intimidated by his fame, his deep pockets, not even his issues - make SOros himself the lightning rod, expose his scams in ripping off the fortunes of others to line up his pockets. All that matter is a simple message, Soros is into this thing is not because he want you to have safe and more secure future, he wanna a weak and chaotic America, so he can benefit financially (he is currently SHORT the US dollar, so a weak chaotic American economy will serve him perfectly). Ninety-five million Americans own stocks and most understood what a "short" position is.

Make Soros himself the lightning rod, this will be the undoing of him.
