Several hundred ancient artifacts stolen from the Iraqi Museum during the wave of looting that hit Baghdad after the fall of Saddam Hussein's regime have been returned to the museum, officials said Tuesday.
Among the most important relics is a 4,300-year-old copper Bassetki Statue that shows the lower part of a man with cuneiform inscriptions commemorating the victories achieved by an Akkadian king.

This is really not a military matter. It's like being criticized because civilians in their houses were breaking laws about what they could say or do. Anything which threatened our military action was dealt with, things which were not military threats were ignored.
Nothing like this was reported during WWII in the Italian campaign or in Normandy, but then, the media was on the side of human freedom then.
Annoying to be reminded of this spineless carping on Veterans Day.
When these storytellers speak of "thousands" of missing artifacts, they don't say that each bead and each piece of broken pottery counts as a separate "item".
Why can't these museums hire their own professional security crews? The most precious thing isn't worth the life of a Soldier.
