This entire affair is so, um, so, American. It's befitting of our lack of seriousness and endless desire for meaningless entertainment.
Maybe we need to get hammered again by the ragheads before we wake up.

This entire affair is so, um, so, American. Beg to differ: it's a Western Civilization thing. But I agree with your basic premise.
"dramatic appearance at a Manhattan awards event with fellow rescued POW Shoshana Johnson and pop star Britney Spears."
Where was Madonna?

"Maybe we need to get hammered again by the ragheads before we wake up."It will take dozens of 9/11s to wake us all up. Did you hear Al queda Gore's speech about repealing the Patriot Act? If a 'rat gets in the White House, you can count on it doing just that. And the Supremes are taking the Gitmo terrorists case. I won't be surprised if they release the barbarians and give them all U.S. visas.

"Maybe we need to get hammered again by the ragheads before we wake up." It's looking more and more like that is the road we are still travelling.
Sometimes, all Americans are as dumb as New Yorkers.

I remember a post someone made about a week after 9/11 which was a montage of all the silly garbage that America was longing to get back to because the terrorists disrupted their "lifestyles". It was sad but so true.
