Maybe you remember it from velvet-voiced Franklyn MacCormack's late night radio program. He used to play moody music and recite poetry from midnight till dawn. The lakefront, the radio, the girl, and the foggy windows.. remember?? How could I ever forget..

Thanks. That's a great site.
I had forgotten MacCormack until someone on FR mentioned him last year. Then all these memories of his mesmerizing voice came back in an instant. I remember him best playing carols during the cold snowy nights of Christmas.
All so long ago.

You forgot the great Franklin Mccormak and his all night Torch hour show on WGN radio. Other great WGN'rs would include Lou Boudreau, Vince Lloyd, Lloyd Petit, and Jack Brickhouse who broadcast the Cubs games. Thanks, that brings back great memories.

I'm a bit younger than you, but I was born in Cicero in '68, moved to Elmhurst in '71 and moved to MI, in '98. There are many things I miss about Chicago, one is reading Kup, the others include WXRT and WLS.
Thanks for the ping dr.

Carl Sandburg once walked off the set in mid-broadcast, declaring he had to wee-wee. When you gotta go, you gotta go!

I grew up in Cicero, about a mile from Sportsman's Park. Graduated from Morton East in 1964.
I didn't realize how unique Cicero was until I left home. My dad worked for Western Electric for 43 years.
I've been in Atlanta for 30 years and I'm still a Cubs fan, even when they played the Braves in the playoffs.

Bless you guys for finding this poem. I tried yahoo and came up with nothing. Google rules!
I don't think I heard this on radio. As I recall, someone like Garroway used to end his tv show with the first four lines of the poem. It's lovely and memorable.

A somber Chicagoland Bump.
Rest in peace, Kup.
