2. Cooperation between the two countries in the field of Defence continues to be one of the most active directions of development. Will the same attention be paid to this sphere in future too?
India-Russia relations in defence and military-technical cooperation are mutually beneficial and have deep roots. Our military technical cooperation is growing from strength to strength. It has transcended a buyer-seller relationship. India and Russia have now graduated to joint design, development and production. The jointly developed "BrahMos" missile is a glowing example of the new dimensions of Indo-Russian cooperation in this sphere. India and Russia have also entered into an agreement to jointly design and produce a fifth generation aircraft. Frigates of a new generation are being built in Russia for the Indian Navy and two of these were recently acquired. For the Indian Air Force, a contract for purchase and licensed production of Su-30 MKI aircraft is under implementation. For the Army, T-90 tanks are being acquired from Russia. These and other ongoing projects are indicative of the stable and fast developing relationship in this area.
3. In your opinion what forms the foundation of the partnership between India and Russia today?
The strategic partnership of India and Russia is based on traditional cooperation, shared perspectives and geopolitical convergences. Continuity, mutual trust and confidence have characterised our bilateral ties.
