They have changed the old saying of, " America the land of milk and honey" to "America, the land of milk and honey, with fruits and nuts added"!

Ironically, immigrant parents who worshiped America have spawned grandchildren who, like Al Franken,

Al Franken. Isn't he that guy that wrote that autobiography, 'Lies and the lying liars that tell them' ?

Yeah, the guy who had a handful of funny lines 20 years ago on SNL and has been running on the bitterness of being a loser ever since.

Twenty years ago, I would have hated Bush much the same way for much the same reason....but I have grown-up since then.

They hate him because he is too American. As internationalists first, they disdain anything too distinctly American. An America that is unsure and forever critical of itself is the America they prefer.

I still think the root cause of the Left's anti-Americanism lies in their disdain for capitalism. The Left realizes that in order to construct their utopian vision, a degree of demolition must first occur. This is why they seem to be anarchists, but they really are socialist, it's just that the relentless successes of capitalism have them playing defense.

"Yeah, the guy who had a handful of funny lines 20 years ago on SNL"

I challenge anyone to produce a funny line by Franken on SNL from 20 years ago, lol. I thought he was horrifically unfunny then and even less so now. And it wasn't his politics - I didn't even know he was a leftie - he was just mind-numbingly dull. As one Jew I'm friends with put it, he's the unfunniest Jew on the face of the Earth.

I dunno.

I think his "me, Al Franken," schtick was pretty funny for awhile. And his stint as a roving reporter for the Weekend Update had it's moments, ie the funny looking doofus in the rain with a satellite dish on his head.

Not hilarious, but mildly amusing to watch.

Boy oh boy, thank you Rabbi Spero for having so eloquently analyzed the malaise that is the American left.

Yes, these pseudosophisticates look to Europe for guidance and validation, endlessly appealing its authority in mindless fallacies of logic--to Europe, the same tired, old Europe that is spiralling downward in a maelstrom of decadence, confusion, delusion, and self-destruction, unable even to muster the energy and imagination to save itself. Such is the "sophistication" of their collective intellect and ability to appraise reality...!

I thought Franken was great on SNL. He easily held his own with the dream-team SNL cast of the '88 ~ '95 era, and he's funnier than any of the recent SNL cast, with a few exceptions. His roving reporter routine was always good for a laugh as was his Stuart Smalley character. Franken's skill as a humorist gets dissed around here for obvious reasons, but I think it might be throwing the baby out with the bathwater. He was a funny guy IMO.

As internationalists first, they disdain anything too distinctly American.

The irony being that, if there ever is the one world they want, it's going to be a world where the free market and accepted standards of freedom have made borders obsolete. In other words, it would be a very American one world, made of everything they hate.

I think in the case of New Yorkers, the hatred is really a massive case of envy that they cannot admit. New Yorkers live in ridiculously expensive ant colony apartments, pay crazy prices for food, worship "fashion" regardless of how impractical it is, send their kids to hideously high-priced private schools, ride crowded smelly subways, etc. They secretly envy the rest of us who live in real houses with lawns, might even have moms who stay home with the kids, have good public schools or at least affordable private ones, go to churches and synagogues where people know and love and help each other, don't throw away money on entire new wardrobes every year, can actually have two cars and somewhere to put them, and can even drive to a huge grocery store and buy 20 bags of groceries if we want. They can't have those things so they must loathe them, pretend they are inferior and stupid, and hate anyone who stands for them and glorifies them. They pretend they are superior beings with superior lifestyles, but once any of them get rich enough they flee the city whenever they can. They identify more with Europeans because European intellectuals have the same urban-lifestyle bias and hatred of us bourgeois suburbanites. It absolutely kills them that we are the majority in America now. They can't beat us, and they are too brainwashed to join us. So they can only hate us.

Why do they so hate George Bush? Why is he, rather than Saddam Hussein, the object of their most intense loathing?

They hate him because he is too American. "

This is a really interesting article. I thought about you because of your balanced take on libertarianism. Though this article is an indictment against liberal democrats I could see how this same line of thought could be applied to the hatred libertarians have toward Bush and Republicans. Maybe not because they see themselves as 'internationalists' but instead their hatred stemming from the very idea that any country should be superior to another. I suppose that's the same sort of idea of 'internationalist'.
