The Mississippi Republican Party began the election season with a barrage of faxes and Web sites attacking Democratic lawmakers with hopes of increasing GOP numbers in the 2004 Legislature.

The strategy failed on at least one front, laments GOP Chairman Jim Herring.

"We failed. I really regret it," said Jim Herring.

It is a little refreshing to hear a state party chairman say that he had failed in a mission, rather than "spinning" the outcome into some kind of false "victory."

"It's unfortunate that in an election year that this partisan politics gets injected into the races," Dawkins said.

It's unfortunate that elections get tainted by politics?

If I were the state GOP, I'd have targeted her for her obvious imbecility.

When it becomes apparent to many of the local elected Dems that the Dem party will likely never win a state-wide election in Miss again, you'll start to see a few of them cross the aisle...many of the older ones, will like Zell, stay Dem in name, but become closet Pubby's...about the only younger Dems getting elected these days are blacks...so the shrinking of the Dem party statewide will continue..you'll see the GOP picking up seats staeadily over the next few elections..

You know it's been a good year when the GOP openly refers to staying even as a defeat.

Intriguing how they barely mention the big switch in the Governor's mansion. =^)
