he said if he's elected, he wouldn't be too popular with insurance companies seeking rate increases without proper justification. It's a bad sign when they start talking like that. "Hey, I know, let's beat the insurance companies over the head until even more of them leave the state!"

I guess it is always fashionable to attack insurance companies in LA, where the rates are much higher than in other state. I know that's because LA has more per capita claims than other states. But people in LA "hate" insurance companies.

Mr Kyle may well be a fine fellow but he strikes me as a thin-skinned, self-righteous loon and utterly humorless.

Kyle is full of humor, but liberals would say he is self-righteous. He has a daunting task on his hands: trying to become LA's first Republican insurance commissioner.
