If one of the Senate's most effective moderates decides not to seek re-election, action on issues from Medicare to taxes could be in jeopardy.

Seniors might never see their prescription drug bills drop. Workers might be without health insurance between jobs. Welfare moms might not get training for work.

Gosh, I never realized that John Breaux is all that stands between us and the end of Western Civilization!

Actually, come to think of it, I'm opposed to all the "wonderful things" that Breaux is described as supporting!

With an ACU rating of 42%, this liberal's importance is about that of Mary Landrieu (35%).

There is a Bible passage that says "a man ought not to think too highly of himself." We will say that Breaux personally follows that caution for the sake of argument. But it does seem that Breaux's ardent supporters really do seem to believe that he is the glue that holds Western Civilization together, doesn't it? Won't it be amusing to see that "nothing whatsoever will change" when and if Breaux leaves the Senate.

Doesn't Arlen Specter also have a 42 percent rating as a "conservative," but now he is "talking conservative" in liberal PA.

Snowe doesn't like the direction the Senate is headed now...

Conservative alternatives to Snowe and Collins need to surface. They are in the same league as Landrieu and Breaux.

Yes. Arlen is another RepublicRAT that needs to be sent back to Pennsylvania where he should be tarred and feathered.

Perhaps Breaux should wake-up and read Zell Miller's book.

Sorry, I borrowed the comment about "Western Civilization" and did not refer to the previous poster.

Wasn't Breaux the problem with reforming Social Security a few years back? When that Ponzi scheme collapses, we should remember things like that...

The "democracy" has held up much firmer in LA than it has in GA. Still, prior to 1994, GA seemed as much a fortress Democrat stronghold as any place else. Now the Democrats seem to have difficulty finding a candidate for the Senate next year. Ditto the Repubicans in Arkansas

I "met" him in 1980 when he was in the House...he was at some reception our industry was giving in Honolulu - you'd think after an all expenses paid trip, the least the guy could do is NOT look right through you.

Perhaps Frist could announce that the GOP candidate, if elected, WILL get a seat on the Armed Services Committee..

"Frankly, the Senate needs more John Breauxes rather than fewer of them," he said.

No.

What the Senate needs is more Republicans with spines from "conservative" states like Louisiana!
