6-year-old suspected of killing grandfather

A 6-year-old Cole County boy released Monday from a mental health facility is believed to have shot and killed his grandfather Friday afternoon, Cole County Sheriff John Hemeyer said Saturday.

James Zbinden, 59, was found dead at his home, 2215 Ridge Rd., shortly after 2:30 p.m. Friday, Hemeyer said.

Zbinden's grandson, who has not been identified, apparently shot Zbinden with a .22 caliber rifle.

"We believe, at this time, that he killed his grandfather intentionally," Hemeyer said.

An autopsy performed Saturday morning in Boone County revealed Zbinden bled to death after suffering a single gunshot wound near his armpit, Hemeyer said.

Zbinden and the boy were the only two people at the residence when the shooting occurred.

After the shooting, the boy went into the street and flagged down a neighbor who was driving by, Hemeyer said. The boy told the neighbor he needed help and that his grandfather was dead.

The neighbor called 911, Hemeyer said, and was asked to look inside the residence to see what was happening. When the neighbor approached the house, the boy said: "I'll go get the gun."

Hemeyer said it appears the boy found the gun in a closet at the residence. According to Hemeyer, family members thought the gun had been disposed of years ago and they were unaware the weapon was in the home.

Hemeyer said the boy has a history of mental problems and has attacked family members, including younger siblings and his parents, in the past. He also said the boy has used knives during previous attacks.

Hemeyer said the boy was released Monday from a central Missouri mental health facility. He had been admitted for treatment there following an attack on another family member, Hemeyer added.

After being taken into juvenile custody Friday afternoon, the boy gave statements indicating he was responsible Zbinden's death, Hemeyer said.

However, Hemeyer said it's unclear what precipitated the attack. "This is a kid who has attacked family members before with no provocation," Hemeyer said, noting that interviews were stopped by the boy's legal counsel.

"I think it's important we determine 100 percent that this is what happened. Unfortunately, we can't do that without information from the boy himself."

The boy currently is being evaluated at an undisclosed mental health facility.

Hemeyer said the boy's case will be dealt with by juvenile courts.

Juvenile "punishment does not exist in Missouri," Hemeyer said. "There are treatment modalities. Everything is set up for the welfare of the child. Certainly, this is one of those instances we have an extremely disturbed child who needs help badly."

My God...the 9 o'clock news here in OKC had a story about a woman who flagged down a motorist and as he slowed, threw a 1 year old baby into the path of his truck. The child was alive at the scene, but died at Children's Hospital.

Not that it matters much in the large scale of an atrocity like this, but it wasn't even her child.

The cop first on the scene was being interviewed and he sounded robotic, almost in a trance.

Well, I disagree, I think it matters a good deal. This is, if this detail is correct, a kidnapping/murder, a double capital offense and I believe a Federal offense.

Damn, this is sad when a child will kill his own grandfather.

Prayers for the family.

As soon as I do, I'll post it. It was the lead on the local Fox affiliate's (KOKH-25) 9 PM news.

That area of town is full of strip clubs, and this woman had been seen outside a couple of them, crossing back and forth across 10th street several times, I don't know if she had the child then or not.

She flagged down a truck, and as he slowed and pulled to the curb, she threw the child out in front of him. The driver, for a reason they didn't state in the story, kept driving. He knew he had hit something, but wasn't sure what.

A motorist that saw the incident chased him down and told him what had happened. So far, police doubt he will be charged with anything.

The woman, Tyeisha Ealy (sp?), is in police custody, charged with first degree murder.

Update on CBS affiliate. The talking head on the other station got it wrong. She didn't flag anyone down, just saw the truck approaching and tossed the child in front of it, then stood around and waited for police to arrive.

I'm sure you're correct. At the time I first heard the story, I wasn't thinking jurisdictional authority. If the Feds can get a needle in this bitch's arm faster, let them have her.

Tyeisha Ealy

When asked to explain herself in court the accused, Tyeisha Ealy, said it all started when she was born and her parents gave her that stupid name. A name that has haunted her night and day and drove her to commit such violent acts. Its repressed, she really wants to kill her parents her lawyer told the judge.

That is the peak of the start of interaction at that special age.

They should simply shoot whateverthehellhernameis on the spot.

Oklahoma City police have identified a 1-year-old boy who was killed when he was thrown into the path of a pickup truck.

Officers say Kameron Lamont Post was thrown in front of the pickup shortly after 1 yesterday morning in northwest Oklahoma City by his aunt, 18-year-old Tiesha Ealey.

Police say the driver who accidently ran over the child was flagged down by Ealey before she allegedly threw the baby in the truck's path.

Ealey was arrested on a first-degree murder complaint.
