You from San Jacinto? Great town, my mom-in-law lived there and our family used to drive thru on way to Idylwild cabin.

Anyway, I can relate, we flew the flag proudly all thru the 60s, 70, 80, and 90s when it wasn't "cool".

I'm proud of that.

Visiting DU is pretty daring. I find myself angrier at DU posters than at my own acquaintences. I can't keep from concocting visuals for DU posters, envisioning smug faces. Aaarghh.

My husband plays in a British-style brass band. Even they are mostly liberal (and ignorant, I might add).

Neil Young as always been one of my favorite musicians/songwriters, so I'm happy (athough not exactly surprised) that he's taken that stance. The bands and individual acts I like invariably just shut up and sing (and play) or take pro-American positions.

But being a musician myself, I come across many of the types you describe.

"thank you all for coming, especially considering how messed up our country is these days .....and Allah be praised."

*snicker* This reminds me of how people on liberal boards (not just DU) always say things like "Thank Goddess" or "I hope to Goddess" instead of "God", even though very few of them actually adhere to any sort of Wiccanesque spirituality. They just say "Goddess" to label themselves and fit in. It's quite funny in a pathetic sort of way.

I've always appreciated your screen name, my pop was an Iwo vet too, First Day, Green Beach, Pioneer Div, officer, survived the whole 3 weeks. I think of him daily.

Re: your husband the musician. You, like my wife, must have the patience of a saint! Bless you spousal "patrons of the arts" ;-)

Well, Semper Fi! My dad was a Navy Corpsman in the first wave, assigned to the Fourth Marine Division.

I'm a professional musician too, so my husband suffers every bit as much as I do. Probably more. : )

You're right! He is a leftover from the sixties, long hair and all. But many of these guys have actual white collar jobs and drive normal cars while harboring their simmering anti-American college-learned socialism.

I thoroughly enjoy each and every time one of the quasi marxists now living the capitalist life in a exploiter jmain-stream job learns the hard way the fruit of their life in the '60s and their toying with marxism.

That usually happens when the firm they work for wins a major government contract that will require all employees to hold a security clearance and the leftists can't get a clearance so instead they get a pink slip.

The other way is when they are looking for a job and even though everything else is good they get a rejection letter rather than an offer letter again becuse their '60s history says no clearance.

It's so enjoyable to watch their reaction and the expression on their faces when that hard-rock out of their past hits them full-square.

I have all ready distanced my self from good friends and very close friends. I quit my job, moved back to rural America and left the big liberal city behind. Took a huge pay cut as well. And ya know something Im happy I dont have to spend my time around those people anymore

This is a strugle against a very vile enemy and I wont put up with these sympathizers and traitors. And Im not speaking of the war against terrorism and the followers of islam

That's an excellent point and personally, if any friend of mine said they hated the American flag they would no longer set foot in my household and our friendship would be ended.
The Flag is MY friend and if a friend was not proud and happy to have that flag waving then they are worthless to me. Bottom line!

I often wonder where all the flags were on 9/10. Nobody in the administration or on the news wore flag lapel pins until after 9/11. Before 9/11 you could be patriotic even without wearing a flag pin or putting bumper sticker on your car. I am surrounded in my neighborhood by many "patriotic" people who fly their flags 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, in the dark, and in the rain, since 9/11.

I really need a karmic hug

Does anyone else?

Please tell me that no matter wha-- we still love each other---the way the freepers never can/will.

Oh please sweet Jesus please say we do. I am hurting so bad. I know I'll be better once I sober up but goddess, I really believed we'd do better than this.

In many ways, the American flag is to the Left as garlic is to vampires. In both cases, as long as the offensive substance stays in the cupboard, they can walk among us in apparent normalcy. But when September 11 unleashed what the Left was at pains to deny existed, people suddenly started reaching for touchstones. Many said prayers they didn't even realize they still remembered. And many reached for the American flag.

The sight of the flag, waving in the clear breeze of morning, is a constant reminder to most of what we cherish. It is also a reminder to the Left of all that they secretly hate; and by negation of all that they secretly desire. No wonder that they cannot bear to see it.

You see, the flag has become a divisive symbol. A polarizing influence

How can one LOOK at this picture and say the flag is a divisive symbol? I surely do live in a different country that my father. God save us!!

I don't know how the far left can hate the flag, I just know that they do. I can read the Bush-haters moods and motivations, but I can't explain or forgive them.

And don't you DARE call these flag haters unpatriotic!

I, for one, have no problem calling a spade a damned shovel--such people are anti-American, unpatriotic, and are actively aiding and abetting our enemies. The blood of our fighting forces overseas is on their hands.

But the Left will complain only in whispers, or to someone who will listen without interrupting or correcting.

That says it all.
