Moscow considers kissing ban
BBC ^ | Nov 8, 2003

Moscovites caught kissing in public places could be fined if city authorities pass a new law currently under consideration, according to a Russian newspaper. The kissing ban could even extend to lawfully wedded spouses, Stolichnaya Vechernyaya Gazeta reported.

Quoting unnamed sources, it said the plan was aimed at raising levels of public morality in the Russian capital.

The newspaper added that "particularly blatant cases could even lead to a spell of temporary detention in jail".

It said that if approved the new regulations would be introduced earlier next year.

The newspaper quoted a city education official, Tatyana Maskimova, as saying that travellers in the Moscow underground were in particular indulging in lax behaviour.

"Our children are getting love lessons all day long from what they see around them," Ms Maksimova said.

Human rights campaigner and a leading member of Russia's Democratic Union party, Valeriya Novodvorskaya said she would defy the ban if the new bill is introduced.

"Introducing a ban on kissing is really taking things to the Orwellian level of an anti-sexual league and capital punishment for the offence," Ms Novodvorskaya told Echo Moskvy radio station.

"However, if this is not a joke and the mayor's office is indeed drafting such a resolution, I will from now on spend my days kissing in public places - simply out of principle.

"The moment I see a nice person I know, I will immediately kiss them - even if I don't feel like it. I invite all other Moscovites to do the same," Ms Novodvorskaya added.

What about if they're kissed in their private places?

LOL! My wife and I plan on going in the not-too-distant future, so maybe we'll try and find out. ;-)

Kissing Ban Denied

MOSCOW (MT) -- Moscow city officials strongly denied newspaper reports that they are planning to ban kissing on the city's metro and other public places to improve morality.

Stolichnaya Vechernyaya Gazeta reported last week that the idea of a ban came from city education committee official Tatyana Maximova. The newspaper also reported that with the ban the city would impose fines for violators.

But Sergei Tsoi, a spokesman for Mayor Yury Luzhkov, said Monday that the report was a provocation. "I state officially that such document has never been proposed at City Hall and has not even been discussed," Tsoi told Interfax.

Tsoi also said that the city government's lawyers would look into the report and decide whether to take the newspaper to court

Let me use your latest post here to set the record straight because I am sick and tired of you and RusIvan labeling anyone who doesn't trust Russia and X-KGB Putin as PARANOID.

Russia was communist for almost 80 years. Russia was the enemy #1 of America for over 60 years and holds the worst human rights record in existance. Your leaders slaughtered millions of its own citizens in pursuit of a pipe dream. You continue to antagonize America and you give aid to our enemies. You say you are with us, but actively work against us.

It's been 15 years and you expect people to just trust Russia as if born new? Do you think that just because the USSR collapsed that your country and people are free and clear of the attrocities committed? Do you think you have a clean slate, and that the world has forgotten what your country has done?

Hardly. Americans, (I for one especially), still remember and know what has happened and are not so quick to forgive or forget. I am not PARANOID. Paranoia is characterized by irrational suspiciousness and distrustfulness. While I might be suspicious and distrust Russia, it is for very obvious and proven reasons. There is nothing irrational about it. I do not fear Russia. I do not fear Putin. I do not TRUST either of them and I am SKEPTICAL of everything that comes out of your rotted out husk of a nation and for very good reason. So next time you want to label PARANOID, go cry someone else a river.

First, let refute your "statement".

Russia under communist 70 years.

Russia allie of America 100 years before Communism and is main reason why Britian/France not interviene in US civil war...Tsar fleet in NYC and San Fran. Also Soviet Union US allie for 30 years.

Human rights much worse in Germany and modern US allie China....who Nixon court with all energy. Oh and we not even go into history...at least Russia still has all indigenous peoples living on own land not exterminated or forced to starve on desert reservation.

America give aid to Russia enemies through out 80s and still provide protection to Saudies and Pakistan...both not Russian friend. Oh and US give 50 year nuclear secret to China.

of your rotted out husk of a nation and for very good reason.

Yeah, ignore last 4-5 years...you good at ignore reality...but quick to attack on any cause...like your post on this stupid article...you first scream like chicken little .... sky falling, sky falling....now you write this that once more your screaming proven empty. HA!

It was SOVIET UNION Orion. 74 years of SOVIET UNION. Now word "Russia" at the name of that state.
NO one of us or no my parents never elected those "your leaders".
About atrocites commited. I for one the first to punish those who did that. Because it was done against MY ansestors. But unfortunatley committers all died to now. But of thier decendants some immigrated to Israel or United States. DO you know that SON of Hikita Khruschev is american citizen today?
But his father was the LEADER of Communist party of Ukraine so the one who responsible for famine in 1930th. The death of at least 5 mln people.
So as the daugther of Stalin in USA somewhere too. Even grandaugther of Trotskii somewher in US too.
Whom to punish then?

And I never did do or will against United States. I think quite opposite if I share my INSIDER knowledge about Russia on this board I do the favor because I educate you.
If you think it is not appropriate then I will silence from that moment on. And I agree you have a right to be sceptical and I don't remember calling you paranoid.

Ok let me refute your statement. If you want to get picky, Russia was communist for 74 years.

I don't care if Russia was an ally of America 100 years before communism, they screwed that up in 1917.

Yeah, ok, so maybe you could argue your human rights record isn't the worlds worst but you are definitely in the top 3.

When we gave aid to the Saudi's and the Pakistan in the 80's you were are enemy. Same with when we gave China nuclear secrets. You claim to be our friend since 1991 but you still continue to aid our enemies. Big difference.

I haven't ignored the last 4-5 years. Your country is getting better, but that isn't saying much considering where you started at.

Quick question for both of you... As of 2002, which party in the State Duma of the Russian Federation has the highest number of deputies?

First in history of world, Russia far from top three, in 1800s, US much worse then Russia, second it Soviet Union and Georgians Stalin and Beria who run concentration camps. Next, if not 50 million gold marks from Kaiser and backing of Rothchilde, Armnhammer and Rockefellers, Soviets not come to power...so big thank you from 30 million dead to American oligarchs...

As for giving China nuclear secrets, you that dense? So you support Clinton then, since it his administration that give it all...well enjoy merv chinese warheads aimed at US cities...your own makings.

As for aid, US still aid Saudi and Pakistan, and it not 80's now but 2000's, so US policy not change damn bit for 30 years, even at risk of own peoples...why? Petro corruption dollars.

Ah, so let me get this straight, and make sure you answer loud and clear so everyone on FR can hear you. You say it is America's fault that all your people died? America is to blame for all the people murdered in the USSR?

I didn't support Clinton, and I didn't support Nixon either. I am disgusted either of them had anything to do with communist China. As for supporting China, you need to do some searching and look back at the treaty Russia signed with China in July of 2001.

As for aiding enemies, Russia supported Iraq under Saddam, they support Syria, they support North Korea, they suport the Palestinians and they support Iran, even though the Iranians are building missiles with Russia's help that can hit anywhere in Russia easier than they could hit anywhere in America. Why you ask? Just plain corruption. Or is it?
