Last year a 6th grade girl was suspended under Atlanta's 'zero tollerance' policy on weapons.
Her infraction? A Tweety Bird wallet that had on it a
small chain to secure it to a belt. The chain was a weapon,
they said. All you can do is make a lot of noise and hope some people realize the futility of zero tollerance. Then home school the kid.

Cathryn, I think you live in Texas. Do you remember the kid who was suspended at Lago Vista for three days, because he had hepled his grandmother move, and a butter knife fell out of a box during the trip to her house? Someone saw it in his pickup bed, and turned him in to the office staff.

That is about as stupid as the "zero tolerance" issue can be.
