November 7, 2003 -- GREAT movies never die - they get remade. Rumor has it that Warner Bros. will remake the 1968 Steve McQueen classic "Bullitt," with Wolfgang Peterson at the helm as producer and/or director. Since Peterson's currently wrapping up "Troy," sources speculate that "Troy" star Brad Pitt may fill McQueen's shoes and play the San Francisco detective in the new version. Expected to sign on as producers: Peter Douglas, half-brother of Michael, and Chad McQueen, son of the late, great Steve.

Well here is another movie being remade. Most of us who grew up in the 1960's remember the Great Steve McQueen. Now Hollywood is remaking another classic, Bullitt, possibly starring Brad Pitt. I don't know about the rest of you but I can't see Brad Pitt playing Frank Bullitt. Talk about "Sacrilege"!!!!!!
To: Captain Peter Blood
Vin Diesel might have the ability to play Frank Bullitt, but brad pitt, might play a good corspe.

I like Vin Diesel, but I can't see him playing Frank Bullit either. Maybe, just maybe Bruce Willis.

McQueen was a man. Pitt is a preening pretty-boy. Willis might be able to pull it off, maybe Michael Madsen, but that's about it.

Can you you think of a 3oish white actor that could bring off bullitt these days, now I can think of three or four black actors that could.

. . . sources speculate that "Troy" star Brad Pitt may fill McQueen's shoes. . .No one will fill McQueen's shoes. BTW, it was 23 years ago today that he died.

Maybe, just maybe Bruce Willis. For my money, Bruce Willis is the only choice for that role.
BTW, does anyone else see a startling resemblance to Steve McQueen in the face of Anthony Michael Hall of "The Dead Zone" series?

How will Pitt find the time while he is busy to fix the Middle East problem and all?

Well, why take a creative risk when you can just remake something. Sheesh. They'll cock it up.

That was part of the charm wasn't it? Of course if they redo it they would probably use tricked out rice burners with fancy wheels, it would sound like two angry bees. Or a couple of weedeaters

One interesting story about "Bullitt, of course McQueen drove his car and did his own stunts, something Brad Pitt won't be doing.
Peter Yates, the original director, has said in many interviews, that in one of the chase scenes, the one going down that steep street in San Francisco. Yates was in the car with McQueen with a camera shooting the footage.
When Yates said that was a wrap, he told McQueen he could slow down and stop. McQueen turns to him and says that the brakes are shot and he can't stop. Yates said he just went numb, he said McQueen was so cool under fire. McQueen just worked on the floor gear shift and shifted down to first gear and making some contact with curb and finally was able to bring the car to a stop. Yates said it was the wildest ride he ever had. I think he turned the camera back on and used that in the picture. Great story.

If they had rice burners, they should use the new Bullitt Mustang.
I also read they had to use a small block powered car for the jumps. The big block was just too heavy. It's a real favorite of our local Mustang club. I've got a 66 fastback and a 69 Mach I.
