Springfield mayor to FDA: "Make my day"; threatened to prosecute him for import of prescript drugs

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) A defiant Mayor Michael Albano had a terse message Thursday for federal regulators that have threatened to prosecute him for allowing his employees to import prescription drugs from Canada: ''Make my day.''

The mayor, whose city is home to handgun maker Smith & Wesson, said he would not be deterred by the federal Food and Drug Administration's toughened rhetoric.

If the companies' profits from the US market didn't subsidize their Canadian activities, they would not be able to afford to sell the drugs at the prices set by the Canadian government.

The American prices are the highest in the world. Given that Canadian prices are based on an average price in 6 first world countries , the US included , then one could conclude that the US market must subsidizes almost every country in the world . And still provide a 18%+ net return to the pharma industry at the end of the year . And every other sector is in the 5-6% or lower range.

One either owns pharma stock, or wishes they did.
