Not quite the same dynamic here in Central Virginny...and as I tend to wear my conservative loyalties on my sleeve, a lotta folks who just appear non-partisan around me may be closet Lib'rals. I worked with a pretty good carpenter friend who was extremely Lib'ral and me and him eventually had to throw hands and are not friends any longer...LOL!! What set him off was my insistence on listening to Rush 3 hours per day, five days per week.
FReegards...MUD
Oh you mean RINO, Orrin Hatch??
Figures....
Since so many on this site refuse to be associated with the Republican party, should they be using this an an invective? Hatch is Conservative and is Republican. To say otherwise is not to know his legislative record or to be so out of tune with the Republican Party or the Conservative movement as to be aptly labeled "fringe" and to be disregarded as a voice of competency.
So sayeth you, and duly noted....
I OTOH I recognize "compassionate conservativism" when I see it. The term "compromised principle" is also an associative condition that allows Rats to lie and take pot shots at traditional conservative issues without the GOP hierarchy returning damaging retributive fire. Your man Hatch is a prime offender. Perhaps he doesn't want to embarrass his fellow Democratic committee members and "friends" like Kennedy.
There's another "rumor" as well...
...That there are GOP Kool-Ade guzzlers who actually believe Arnold won't enact a slew of liberal-socialist/pro-Democratic platform programs during the tenure of his Governorship.
"So friggin what, she's a FRIEND of Ted Kennedy's? Ted Kennedy shouldn't have any friends?"
00000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
No he shouldn't...(g) And in my perfect world...."Big Ted" would be given plastic surgery to make him appear to be half-man, half-pig. Then made to walk thru downtown Tikrit, Iraq.
Does that help?
Fwiw-
" Hatch is Conservative and is Republican."
0000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000
Without checking you...and for the sake of argument...I'll agree.
But how does the above square with his apparent "need" to legitimize illegal aliens? Is it conservative to "award" illegal behaviour? Is it even Republican?
fwiw-
That being said, I disagree with Hatch if he wants to give a blanket amnesty. I think he is wrong. But being wrong on an issue is not enough for me to label someone as an enemy. Too many on this site view even a variance of one vote enough to forever label them a traitor to this or that cause.
For example, being friends with a Liberal for many here is enough to disqualify you for any position. I think that is wrong as well. Doesn't make me wish they would get banned though.
"I guess I don't think about Teddy as much as you seem to do."

LOL!! You missed the (g). Sorry, if I wasn't clear on that.
But come on...you base your apparent conclusion that I think more about Uncle Teddy than you...on one post, consisting of 2 or 3 sentences?
Oh wait, wait..hold the phone I just re-read your post..It said, "You "guessed". Okay I get it now....Sorry.
FWIW-
"I make both sides mad when it comes to immigration and illegal immigration because while we need to stop illegal immigration, "shootin' em as they cross the border" isn't the way I would think would be most effective and reflective of our National morality." =======================================================
That's one heck of a description of the "sides"...!! Yikes..!!
I don't know of anyone who truly advocates "shootin'em as they cross".
Do you really think that's how the "sides" shape up?

Fair enough. And I agree to your point. But in totality, Mr. Orrin Hatch has "turned over" enough for my taste. I don't think him a "traitor" though. But if I lived in Utah....I'd work to see him defeated. He comes across too often...as all bark, no bite.

I've co-worker's, & family that are liberal. Some are Marxist's even....I'm friendly with them....but I'm not "friends" with them. We don't pal around together...
I don't think that should disqualify them or me...from any "positions". But I darn well bet you...that my being a Conservative & a Christian....will ABSOLUTELY..get me disqualified from "positions" in "their" world.
FWIW-
No, since they were yellow-dog conservative Democrats, not socialist Ted Kennedy Democrats. The types of Democrats Reagan got (pro-life, pro-gun) would NEVER vote for Arnold or George Ryan. Not to worry though, they have Hollyweird and the Green Party commies to make up for it.
Sorry, Arnold won as many "elections" as one-termer George Ryan did. Wait until 2004 and 2006 until you gloat that your RINO trash has won "elections". All the evidence with precious RINO governors in their ELECTION resulted in a Democrat sweep four years later.
I'm all for immigration, it keeps us fresh with new hungry blood. But I'm also for the "American Melting Pot" as opposed to the "American Stew". I believe in diversity within a culture, not diversity of cultures. So I am for legal immigration, against illegal immigration, and am opposed to the extremists on both sides.
