the old phrase "n------ in the woodpile" was akin to 'skeleton in the closet'. unseen trouble/ waiting scandal, similar.
So in this person's mind, I think she was trying to make a point that the hidden scandal was really bad -- like 6 skeletons in the closet.
that is my guess.
