[history]
The principal of Woodside High School, furious after some players on the school's football team chanted obscenities at their coach as he entered the locker room after yet another loss, has canceled the remainder of the school's already dismal football season.

Woodside is a pretty wealthy area. You'd think these kids would have more class.
So, rich kids are, by default, superior to kids from poor families?

My personal view is no one should ever be penalized for
not snitching. I know that's not PC in these days of the "Patriot Act" and "TIPS", but so be it.
Also, I can't help thinking that not that long ago, the team would have just done some extra drills or sprints after practice.

"Woodside is a pretty wealthy area. You'd think these kids would have more class. "
Wrong assumption. After much time spent with the 'upper crust' of society, quite the opposite is true.
Money can't buy class.

"One thing you DID NOT DO was mouth off to the coaches."
Sprints until you puked always seemed to be an effective tool in reigning in dissent back in the day.

They say that wealth within a family lasts for only 3 generations. The original creator of the wealth has the drive, ambition, discipline, and foresight to become wealthy, but as the money gets passed through the successive generations, they are eventually so spoiled and self-centered that it all gets squandered in the end.

Well Team, welcome to the real world.
If left or their own with no resulting responsibility for their actions, it would be a much more tragic lesson to be learned when they entered the working world.
I sure that their future employer would be understanding if this type of childness were used in their place of employment. It would be followed in short order by:
YOUR FIRED.

My take is that Packy is not a very good coach to let the situation get to this. This didn't happen in a flash and he either didn't see or didn't listen.
Football is very much like the military, and high school football should resemble boot camp. You weed out bad attitude early and make the players first fear then respect you.
When a season goes south it usually is from the players not buying into your program and the season ends on a downer. In this case a few bad actors crossed the line and ended it early.

You can not allow 15 to 18 year old pukes to disrespect the coach or teachers...even if the coaching was lousy. Coaches can usually be removed by petitions or firings if their coaching is bad. What the players showed was out and out contempt for authority! I hope the school bans competitive football for a few years until the offending team has graduated...or at least bans the current players for try-outs next year!

I tend to believe the coach's description of the discipline problems they've had all year.We had a similar group of idiots on my high school football team way back when. We'd turned in a poor showing the first two or three games which apparently embarrassed these guys, & rather than to assess their own skills, they employed the same tactics as the kids at Woodside to begin degenerating our coach.
One day after practice the coach called us together & basically offered the group's leader the chance to back up his talk with action.
Humiliated, the kid & his gang quit the team. As it turned out, their leaving saved our season. There's simply no way to win with whiners like that around.

Our coach used to give us sprints if he thought we were "dogging it". He was a former phys ed teacher at a military school who moved over to the public schools. He wouldn't stand for not giving a good effort, much less disrespect. As a distance runner, those sprints used to kill me...

I've got the 7 figure members in my extended family. They are the most empty and bored people I have ever met. Spend more time complaining about stuff than they do laughing.
must suck being them.

This begs a look for the future. What if a team is on a losing streak or is having a miserable season. They can use this example as a way out of the remainder of their horrible year. Cuss out the coach and hope the school will cancel the rest of the season. Sounds far-fetched, but it could catch on. This would, by extension, coverup the lousy play of the team or certain members of the team. Kids need to grow up and start taking responsibility for their own actions.

If its any consolation to you, the Redskins haven't been the same since that game either. Very disappointing seasons for both teams.

Bump to that!
To: Owl_Eagle
I think that chant will resound throughout FedEx Field if we look as bad against the Seattle Seahawks as we have in the last few games. At least for you the Linc has been spared from "F- Andy" with the last few wins. I can only imagine what's being said about Bill Callahan over in RaiderNation by the Bay...ouch!
