What bothers me is the part where Scotty saids; I was hoping you would get this message and go on out there.
It is past tense, and not the way you would leave a "real" message. Wouldn't you say, "I hope you get this message before Vella Farms closes. If you do, can you pick up the basket for "papa".

Clouda, that is the very issue that rang out to me as I read this story: the man has no sense of "timing" or "reality".
