The United States complained to the governments of Lebanon and Syria, as it did last year to the Egyptian government when a similar series played there, but to no avail.

That's strange - I don't remember hearing Barbra Streisand being "deeply disappointed" that the United States tried to prevent this from being broadcast...

But, imagine if Al-Manar had caved in to the US request. I can just hear the words that Streisand would have spoken (or published on her blog) - "I am deeply disappointed that Al-Manar has caved in to right wing Republican pressure to cancel the network broadcast of the movie entitled "The Diaspora". (And I say MOVIE - because this is NOT a documentary - it's a television drama.)"

Oops, that was what she was saying about the flap over the CBS "The Reagans" biopic... Never mind...

The US needs to spend the money and effort on televison for that area.
