As Street wins this race the city of Philadelphia, my home CITY, is doomed. Well, let me revise the part of my home city: I am one of these Blue Blood Main Line natives (Paoli, PA) who grew up in the burbs, but moved into the city living off a grad student stipend at MCP in Roxborough. After 10 years of studing and risk taking with a biotech company I was able to move out to Montgomery County but not without taking an eyeopening look at how Philly works.
Philadelphia is corrupt from top to bottom. Has been for years. And unless something Earth shatering happens, it will allways be. It is the model of corruption and special interest patrionage that Zell Miller claims has taken hold in the Democratic Party nationwide. The corruption in governmment ranges from the mayor's office, to the courts, right down to the garbage men (try having a large load on your sidewalk taken off without a $50.00 bill laying beside it!). We had a problem with a neighbor (an absentee landlord) who had a sewer line leaking into our basement. The office of Licenses and Inspection took almost no action until they found out that our house was for sale, hence they could re-access. Only then did they even issue a citation! Even then no real action was taken. I had to re-seal my basement and put a sump pump right next to the leak site to avoid the stench of raw sewage coming from his house!
Don't get me started on the schools! I could go on and on and on!!
The (not so) funny thing is that the white liberals living in the wealthy neighborhoods of Mount Airy and Chestnut Hill, after years of enabling this crap, are moving out. And taking their tax dollars with them comdemning the city tax base to the poor. And they are leaving to where? Why, to Montgomery, Chester and Bucks County...where I escaped to... and bringing their liberalism with them. They love libralism unless it happens to them, but will continue to inflict it where ever they go! For instance, my ballot questions today: "Should we reserve $1.5 million to preserve 'open space' in Montgomery County?" I live ind Ambler, 5 miles from the county border with Philly. I want conservation as well as the next guy but MontCo is nothing but open space 5 miles north of me!! Sounds good and fuzzy but is a recipe to drive my property value higher along with my taxes and homeowner insurance!
I love this area of PA. But the problems of Philly are now effecting the surroundning region. Something needs to happen. but thank God I'm not in the city limits any more.
That's what liberals do. After destroying NYC, they all moved to the CT suburbs, which they are proceeding to destroy.
If we were wise we'd destroy our current nuclear arsenal and replace it with one comprised solely of upper-class liberals. A few such weapons could wipe out an enemy in no time flat.
It's happening all over. Liberals are moving to Nevada and Arizona from the coasts in droves, bringing that which they have escaped with them. Liberalism is a mental illness.
Tucson is the home of Davis-Monthan AFB. I bought a home here after I retired two years ago. When I bought, I had to sign a legal form stating that I knew I was in a military flight path. No problem for me, I lived that way for 20 years. One of the latest liberal ploys here is to buy a house, sign the statement, then call the mayor's office every time a jet flies by. They are trying to get the base shut down. They don't like the sound of freedom, and their word is worthless. They are liberals.
