Yes, my husband drew me a picture of the UFO once. Basically, it's like an upsidedown pie plate, but I erred when I said it had porthole windows. He reminded me just now that the windows were actually more like oblong, square, radius-cornered airliner windows, of all things! It was near Castle Air Force Base, by Merced (San Joaquine Valley, CA), in 1977.
The time was early evening, dusk, the sun was still out but casting long shadows, and stars were beginning to show. The saucer was about 75 feet in diameter, he guesses. It was rotating, and it was silent, and only about three houses away. He, his 8-year-old son, and a couple of neighbors, saw it.
When the thing disappeared, it took off into the heavens and seemed to become, or meld into, what was a rather bright, distant light in the sky, like a star. Husband says that he and the other guys hung around outside for over an hour, watching the bright light to see what it would do ... and as it didn't move, it became apparent that it was -- just another star.
The dilemma, I think, for him was that he was then faced with two rather tough options. He would either have to convince himself that he had been lied to by his own eyes, and continue believing (like so many on FR!) that such things are impossible and fanciful deceits, or he could believe what his own senses observed, and have to deal with the shocking proposal that normal, trusted ideas of reality are apt sometimes to be false. I'm sure it must have troubled him for some time, but as I didn't know him then, I didn't see it as it happened to him.
Interesting that you would bring God into it. I am a Christian, Presbyterian, though I confess I haven't gone to church very much, though I have read (and continue to browse) the New Testament and parts of the Old Testament and very much believe in Jesus and the grace of our merciful God, and pray that He will forgive me of my many sins, and I thank Him for helping elighten me to see the error of my past ways -- it's such a strange thing to think that if not for Him, I would still be living in a kind of blindness, thinking that certain things were okay, when in fact, they were sins! I am so grateful for being able to see what I didn't before. Have read Revelations a few times, and it hardly makes more sense now than it ever has, other than being very scary.

When it comes to UFOs and visitors from Elsewhere, both my husband and I have deep fear. Lately (last few years) I've been dreaming of the arrival of UFOs (my husband does, occasionally, too) and in our dreams, most people welcome them with the idea that they are benevolent, while my husband and I and a handful of others are, in these dreams, immediately seeking to flee underground to where the aliens cannot find us, because we somehow understand what the others do not, that these aliens are evil and anti-God. So I found it especially interesting what you posted to FR. Can you elaborate your thinking on it? I myself don't really understand WHY I fear the possible arrival of these things so much. Maybe you can elighten? --
