You have got to be a real jack*ss if you think you've come up with a solution that is actually workable. Pardon my intervention, but I couldn't help noticing that you seem to have checked your Christian compassion at the door in this your reply. Does dealing with a fellow US citizen (I assume you're a citizen as much as it makes me blanche) make you forget your normal, sweet Christian nature? Would it help if the person disagreeing with your tender-hearted position were Hispanic? Do you find it hard to love people that are here legally?

Perhaps harping on illegal immigration is the only way they know to express their hatred of foreigners, colored people, and others who talk funny."
So, tell me, using your value system, how many immigrants from Africa, Asia, and Europe would there be in the US and how many from Mexico? Would there be tens of thousands of Europeans and millions of Mexicans, or some other ratio?
I grant Wal-Mart a lot of slack to run their business as they see fit and to prosper when their customers benefit. To some extent, it is the problem of Wal-Mart's competitors to figure out how to stay in the game.
But in this instance, Wal-Mart is cheating by taking advantage of the lesser demands of illegal aliens. Their competitors do not deserve having to compete with law-breakers.

I share your regard for latin workers, however, if we water down our immigration laws, it will create a FLOOD from all over the world. We just CANNOT do that.
And, for your information, although they are hard working (99% of my work force is spanish speaking), many of them also take advantage of every welfare program available. I know of one, who was here illegally, is back in Mexico, and is trying to get on Medicaid right now. I know of another, who comes accorss the border in Texas to pick up his Social Secruity check, then goes back to Mexico.
And last, but not least, if they are given citizenship, the majority to vote democrat...and democrats will bankrupt the country (like California) if they are given free reign.

Oh, I may be full of it, but I'd still like to see you describe a solution that is actually workable in the real world, that addresses the economics and politics of the situation, and that has a chance of becoming law.I apologize for saying that you are full of it. I do respect the fact that you appear to be a very caring person. And I understand your feelings towards people who come to the U.S., whether legally or illegally, to try to better their lives. You just need to understand that most Americans want our immigration laws to be enforced, and if somebody violates our immigration laws, that person should be punished in some fashion. I don't know what the solution to the illegal immigration problem should be, but we can't just keep turning a blind eye to illegal immigration in the name of compassion. Because if we do that, someday the United States will become a country that NOBODY, Americans and foreigners alike, will want to live in.

You are very wrong. I did mention one solution and that is enforcing the law. That will deter others from flooding in.
What's wrong with this solution?

You know, I seem to recall Christ calling people a lot worse than a jack*ss. Do some reading.
And while you're at it, I dare you to lay out a workable plan to fix the situation. Maybe you'd just like to whine about it, instead.

All right, just for the sake of argument, would you commit to military, public, or volunteer service?... Would you be willing to pay an immigrant exception taxes to offset the cost of services you and family members incur...
As you state, to be fair, and have a win-win situation, you must offer something in consideration of the things you are asking for...
I think about my son and daughter who have an Italian mother... They might want the perks of being Italian and American Citizens but would they take the good and bad that goes with that... In other words, is my son willing to serve 19 months or whatever the requirement is in the Exercito Italiano (The Italian Army) as a condition of citizenship?... I would hope that he would...
When you hear about Jews that want to emigrate to Israel, are they willing to put themselves on the line to protect that country in the event of national emergency (Oh, that would never happen in Israel)...
You have to bring some a$$ to get some a$$...

Now, since I answered your question. How about you answer mine? What personal experience do you in ministering to illegal immigrants?
To: what's up
Enforing the law. Great -- a simplistic, bumper-sticker answer to a problem involving millions of people.
Can you be a little more specific about how we're going to get that done? I mean, in our current courts, with our current leaders, not in your fantasy land where suddenly the justice system miraculously starts functioning the way you think it should, and starts spewing illegals out of the country by magic.

Well, how about cracking down on a bunch of them who work at Wal-Mart? Sounds good to me, even though you may call it "fantasy land".
If enough of these stories make the news, the numbers of illegals crossing will diminish since they know they won't get the freebies they've been getting in the past.
To: paulklenk
It ought to bring people screaming in rapture to the polls. These people can't vote legally so the polls don't matter anyway.
The majority of the voting public want illegal immigration stopped so it very well could bring people screaming to the polls.

There are gobs of Freepers who offer NO solutions -- no real ones, anyway -- to the illegal immigration situation. Solution is simple: Deport the law breakers and substitute with a like number waiting to enter legally. Our nation was founded on hard working immigrants wishing to become citizens, to learn OUR LANGUAGE and to assimilate. Worked well these many years until we were plagued by illegals, speaking little English except "$10.00 an hour OFF THE BOOKS".

It took you this long to come up with an anecdotal BAND-AID solution?
Where are those people who were arrested, by the way? Are they still in this country, or are in a jail, or ROR, or what?
Get your brain in gear and give me a real solution.

In Germany, they have dialects of German (pfalzische, Schwaebisch, Bayerische, and several others) but everyone speaks and understands Hoch-Deutch(High German)...
Same thing in Italy...
I think the "as for me and my house thing works" quite well...
And though I wish everyone were allowed to celebrate their culture and background with their family and in their homes (I guess I watched "My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding too many times), I think everyone speaking a common language is about saying that regardless of where our ancestors come from, this is something we will share as a nation... It does not have to be a law but it needs to be understood...

And while you're at it, I dare you to lay out a workable plan to fix the situation. Maybe you'd just like to whine about it, instead.
Don't need to, faker. One was laid out in 1986. Maybe you're too young to remember: that involved an amnesty for the "decent people" who had come here illegally but who were supposedly "working hard and obeying the law," in return for stepped up enforcement of the immigration laws. Guess what happened, Mr. Faux Compassion?

Why do you ridicule punishing offenders as not being a solution? Doesn't enforcing the law reduce crime?
To: StarFan
So your solution is to miraculously switch places with millions of people --- you millions go home, you millions come in, and you're happy? How's that going to actually happen? Please name me one Senator who can write a bill that will accomplish that?

You can drive along Buford Hiway and see more signs in Korean than English and more in Spanish than both of the aforementioned together.Amen, sir, I do it every day. The problem with illegal "immigrants" is that they do not wish to become citizens at all. They want to come and take from the country - a lot of it going down south to their native countries - and live as if they were still in Mexico. I would love for these people to come here legally and work to become Americans, but that's just not going to happen. So, if they wish to pretend that they are still in Mexico, send them home and make it a reality.

What is it about ILLEGAL that people find so offensive. If an American tried to sneak into another foreign country, the American would be arrested. Why do we have to treat people differently ..?? I just cannot understand that. We are not responsible for the living conditions in Mexico which drive these people north. Why is America expected to pick up the tab for this ..??
