I glanced at south beach. At first, I wasn't going to go hardcore on any diet, I was just going to reduce carbs "informally." But it turned into a real atkins style approach---very very little carbs, high fat, unlimited calories. Granted I have shed a pound or two, but I need a breakthrough. I work out at the gym almost every day. I think if I could drop 10 pounds, I'd be in perfect condition. Maybe I will check out south beach as an alternative.

Try adding a calcium supplement, if you're not already taking one. This sometimes helps kick you off a plateau.

I walk(power walk) every day, and south Beach is the only diet I've ever tried that I can handle. I'm not hungry. I get snacks, I get three meals, and I get dessert. Check it out on-line.

Next week I start Phase II, and slowly start adding whole grains and fruit back in.

re: Granted I have shed a pound or two, but I need a breakthrough. )))

I've been on Atkins maintenance almost a year. It took me a very long time to reach my target weight--and lose about 25 pounds--almost a full year.

One thing I discovered, is that on Atkins you can have prolonged "plateaus" where you don't lose. However, you're not going hungry, and not gaining. Patience.

Actually, if you're on a low carb, high protien diet, and you work out regularly, you may very well NOT see much weight loss. Instead, keep an eye on your shape. High protien and lots of exercise will build muscle pretty quickly, so as you lose fat, you will add muscle, and muscle "weighs" more than fat. I know a guy who works out 4 times a week, and has stopped losing weight, but is still slimming down, and having to buy new pants.

Huck - If you don't have much weight to lose, it will not drop off of you at the same rate as someone who is very overweight. Just stick with low carb (whichever plan you choose) and it will eventually come off. If it doesn't then you are either not eating *ENOUGH* or you are at your ideal weight already.

I started Atkins about a year ago. I have not lost at nearly the rate as a lot of others. I started at 210, I am at 175 now and I still have a good 10 pounds left to go. I have hit many plateaus. I have been in the 175 - 178 range for the past month in a half. But I have been on the plan long enough to know that one of these weeks, I will be at 171 - 172 all of a sudden.

I know by this next summer, I will bet at 165 or under, and that is good enough for me. I plan on eating the way I do now for the rest of my life so I am in no hurry. I know once it comes off, it is never going back on.

Huck, you do know that muscle weighs more than fat, right? I'm just wondering if the working out (building muscle mass) is why there's no change when you weigh yourself.
