To say the Canadian government does not represent the people ..... is helpful? He does not say that, he points out the difficulty that fine Canadians, of which there are plenty, have in affecting government policy. And is gracious to admit that even in the U.S. individuals have a similiar difficulty.
He states,"Canada's government is much less connected to "the will of the people" than our own is." I'd like to hear him expand on this and I assume it has a lot to do with the Preamble to the Constitution.."We the people..."
As for the statement..."On the other hand, the Canadian government just plain sucks."
As represented by the current crop of politicians, I couldn't agree more !! I could go further and say that the structure of the government with an unelected Senate is gravely flawed.

No more engines for your cars, no Voyager/Caravans. No more Chevy trucks. No more full size cars....
Yea, right! The only reason you have auto plants is due to the Canadian trade demand that requires that for every U.S. Car sold in Canada an equal number must be produced there. Without the U.S. Auto industry you're no better then Mexico.
And at least Mexico has nice beaches and good looking women.........

Who did you immediately call for help? That's right, America, and we did come and help you. I'll bet.
The list of things that America and Americans have done for Canada is long indeed.
Blank sheet of paper still comes to mind.
I would suggest that you develop some appreciation, perhaps even gratitude, for the good ol' USA.
I could wait for an eternity before someone produces one concrete, non-imaginary, non-paranoid-delusional, non-history-fudging example.
And maybe, consider, writing on a Canadian site and not an American one.
I could, but it wouldn't be as entertaining.

Respect is understood to be something that you cannot forceably aquire. You cannot buy it, you cannot hold things hostage for it. It must be earned. The USA bank of respect is overdrawn. Heh...oh yes, canada is universally respected.
Go away and crave acceptance on some meaningless socialist messageboard. The US has never needed canada for anything. Not anytime, anyplace or anywhere. We could build a 30 ft. wall between our two nations and get our goods from any other nation on this planet without any considerable hardship. Your pitiful northern wasteland is inconsequential. Deal with it.

The Canadian Senate has no power. No ability to enact anything. They are unelected and basically are a retirement home for the benefit of people who paid off polititions. Usually during an election campaighn.
The Senate is a way of giving undesrved people a paycheque. Is this wrong? Yes! But it does not do any harn other than cost the taxpayer.
They do not hold any power in parliment. I fail to see what you are getting at. Other than you might be mistaken that the Canadian Senate has any political power in Canada.
They don't. Occaisonally they are asked to review a point or two, but they have no authority, and only ever offer advice, which is most often taken with a grain of salt.
Are they a waste of taxpayers money? Yes!!

Why don't you just post the link to the site you copied this from?

Oh, I forgot to mention. Close down the Windsor tunnel to Canadians crossing to work in Detroit and Ontario would suffer irreparable unemployment ........

Thanks for your posts. Looking at the calibre of these recent posts from Canadians, I think our case is made :-)
These people show no respect for the fact that this is an American site and they are foreigners. I don't think they even have the maturity to understand that respect is in order in this situation. They are not honest or honorable. They have nothing to say but mindless anti-Americanism.
I think that is what we have been objecting to all along :-)

Lie a lot?I think I know you. I met you in the bar at the Hotel Vancouver last year.
You were spouting off about Pierre Trudeau and how Canada was privileged to have him as Prime Minister.
I spit in your drink while you were pontificating. I'd spit in your eye now.
Pieces of sanctimonious Canucklehead sh*t like you are a good part of the reason I advise my kids to emigrate.
You b*stards are trying to make Canada the East Germany of the 21st Century.

Hmmm a long 5000 mile fence... hmmmm Well Canadians might be a little worse off as far as luxury items go. We might not all have HDTV's, but we have enough energy in oil and gas to last hundreds of years, as well as run all our cars. We have enough water to drink... Tell me what happens to America is we shut off the gas, oil and soon to be water? I prefer to be warm with gas in the car and without HDTV thank you....
Canada has resources in abundance. America is running out... I understand many of you don't like Canada now. but in the next 10-20 years you will be so dependant on us that well....
To: mikes-opinion
Just because we do not think highly of American politics, and your style of democracy, certainly does not dismiss the fact that the rest of the globe thinks even less! To perhaps enlighten you regarding world wide impressions of the USA, here is a poll......
Ah, so we are to think more highly of you simply because world opinion looks down on us more than Canada? After seeing who the true Axis of Weasels were, I/we don't really give a crap anymore of what you elitists think of us.
As for your criticism of our style of Democracy, care to give me one example of any other style superior to ours? Surely you are not implying that the Socialist republic of Canada is somehow better? ROFLMAO!!!

They do not hold any power in parliment. I fail to see what you are getting at. Other than you might be mistaken that the Canadian Senate has any political power in Canada. That they do not have any power is the problem.
If you look at the U.S. system you'll see that every state has equal representationin the Senate. This allows for states with a smaller population to have an equal say, at least in passage of spending bills.
In Canada on the other hand you have a government that is grossly distorted by the heavily populated provinces of Ontario and Quebec. This is the source of the dissatisfaction of the Western provinces.

Yes indeed. I think your post sums it up. Some Americans have no respect for anyone else.
And they fail to understand why they are disliked all over the globe. Your remarks simply reinforce that.
As a Canadian am I to understand I cannot defend my country against ill informed Americans?
Am I to understand that you simply want only similar minded people to slap each other on the back, and laugh at the rest of the world?
Am I to understand you do not want to concern yourself with others opinions, and you wish only to discuss your opinion and the opinions of like minded people?
This is a fundamental reason why there is such a rift in the USA......
