But then, Bolinas is the quintessentially loopy Marin County town where residents regularly remove directional signs so "outsiders" won't be able to find it.

I'd have voted to impeach or otherwise remove from office any elected official who permitted such an illiterately framed proposition to appear on any ballot, whatever, and also to dismiss for cause any bureaucrat involved in such a waste of taxpayer monies.

And, voted ''no'' on the proposition, certainly, no matter what it may have purported to accomplish.

This bizarre ballot measure WON by 67% in Marin Co. Just goes to show what absolute wackos live in Northern CA.

No, the measure was just for those who reside in the Bolinas Community Public Utility District.

The Point Reyes Light Endorses

Measure G in Bolinas is an advisory measure written by Bolinas resident Jane Blethen (AKA Dakar). Couched in "stream-of-consciousness" rhetoric, to quote The Los Angeles Times, the measure declares that the town should live in harmony with nature (including such nature as blueberries that don’t grow naturally in Bolinas). Blethen is eccentric in dress and behavior, and while some people find her and her measure’s wording intriguing, it costs money to hold elections such as this. We appreciate BPUD’s letting all of its constituents be heard, but it would be better if utility directors merely voted on a resolution and did not put such issues on the ballot. No on Measure G

The author of Bolinas' Measure G wears burlap around her legs and neck, and paints her face in dark chocolate sprinkled with black pepper. She's lived on the streets and in the woods for ages. The measure she wrote reads:

"Vote for Bolinas to be a socially acknowledged nature-loving town because to like to drink the water out of the lakes to like to eat the blueberries to like the bears is not hatred to hotels and motor boats. Dakar. Temporary and way to save life, skunks and foxes (airplanes to go over the ocean) and to make it beautiful."

Nobody really knows what it means, but the petition gained enough signatures to get those exact words onto the ballot. Early polls indicate the measure will probably pass.

One of her letters to the editor of a local rag (Coastal Post in San Anselmo):

Power Plants
To: Bolinas Public Utility District and Anyone:
In the past 10 years, T.V. showed regular airplane crashes. The radar screen in Oakland did not see the airplanes over Bolinas and it was not their intention airplanes go over Bolinas. They built new radar stations, new airplanes and a new airport. Motors have evil power, evil spiritual power, to overpower motors that there would be more machines and the old machines pile up. Regular new power plants. Pilot is a good word for a person that drives you to death. So the bible was not tricked to use that word. Drivers of airplanes are drivers of airplanes. The power problem of technology includes less motors in the future, particularity of good and bad of machines that are accepted and no stopped running motors. We would not have banks today were they not church affiliated. Wharf Road in Bolinas has four semitrucks on it at one time. The police cars are not good cars like they used to be and need to be shut off when stopped because stopped running motors, police and ambulance, disturb the ones fallen down, animals and others.

Jane Blethen, known for walking around Bolinas wearing hats made of tree bark and newspaper, gathered 263 signatures to get Measure G on the ballot.
