‘Ten Days of Hope’

(IsraelNN.com) StandWithUs and Green Dog Entertainment, in cooperation with the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles and the Consul General of Israel, have arranged for eight female Israeli teenage survivors of the devastating Dolphinarium suicide bombing and a mother who lost her only child in the attack, to come from Tel Aviv to Los Angeles from November 3-14, 2003.

The program, entitled '10 Days of Hope,' will address the survivors' lingering health issues through appointments with local medical specialists. The teens will also enjoy sponsored visits to theme parks, studios, restaurants, beaches, and much more. Host families from neighborhood synagogues have graciously agreed to welcome the teens into their homes during their stay.

Compliments of generous merchants in the Los Angeles area, the teens will be treated to a shopping spree and day of beauty. Juliet Gerard Design Studio has agreed to custom design dresses for the girls and makeup artists will be performing full makeovers and provide gifts of cosmetics. Local physicians, including specialists in hearing, vision, cosmetic surgery, dentistry and orthopedics have arranged to evaluate the medical needs of the survivors. A cosmetician will provide products and training in the use of scar camouflage cosmetics.

On May 31, 2001, a suicide bomber approached the line at the Dolphinarium Disco in Tel Aviv, Israel, and triggered an explosion that killed 21 people, including 19 teenagers. Over 100 people were wounded. Many of the survivors have spent the last two years between surgeries retraining their minds how to talk and their legs how to walk. They struggle with depression, thinking of things they used to be able to do, staring at photographs of how they used to look, remembering friends who have perished. '10 Days of Hope' will be a unique opportunity for eight young Israelis to have ten days to focus on their mental and physical healing.
