To those of you familiar with the online game NationStates:
Can you recommend a region that is well-stocked with nations dedicated to FR principles? I'm in one now that PURPORTS to be such a region, but plainly isn't -- e.g., voting for UN Resolutions that intrude into regions' and nations' authority to execute murderers, etc.
TOPICS: Miscellaneous
KEYWORDS: games; nationstates

try the Free Republic Alliance I'm there now. I hope I'm not offending you if I say that I feel I could do better in terms of the ideology of a region and its UN delegate.

I just signed up for nationstates. I am the Armed Republic of Farsund, and my motto is "Valhalla I am Coming".
What region are y'all in? Should I move to it?

What region are y'all in? Should I move to it?I just moved to "Alliance of FReepers" ... "The Free Republic Alliance" was full of pretenders (its UN delegate was voting FOR some of the hippie anti-global-warming treaty crap!!). Because I'm new to my (new) region, I can't yet say whether it's worth joining. Remember, you can always up and move ... so why not?

You should join the region of Africa! Africa is the most intense role-playing region in nationstates and boasts of a dedicated core that has been actively developing scenarios since January 2003.
Here are the top 10 reasons to move to Africa:
10. Regional Web Page with History of the Continent since January 01, 2003 and individual country webpages: www.geocities.com/nsafrica
9. Bulletin Board where a lot of inside secrets are revealed and countries get to debate more informally:
http://frost.bbboy.net/nationstatesafrica 8. Regional map which uses the real outline of Africa and is updated regularly, accounting for all the states on the continent
http://www.geocities.com/easy2beatnojoke/MapPage.html 7. The creation of an intra-regional organization called the African Union, where resolutions are proposed and which consists of a Secretary General (UN Delegate), General Assembly (one vote for every member state), and a Security Council (made up of seven members {Sec. Gen. + 2 states from each sub-region voted on in monthly elections}
http://www.geocities.com/nsafrica/AUCharter.html 6. Monthly elections for UN Delegate, allowing democratic norms to flourish at the highest level of regional representation
5. Chat room meetings where states debate live, one-on-one, on resolutions presented to the Security Council and General Assembly
http://www.geocities.com/nsafrica/AUMeetings.html 4. Message posting collections. One state in the region is collecting all of the conversations, so you may obtain a bi-weekly word document via email usually running in 8-point font between 50-75 pages in length. This transcript has everything written on the message board.
http://www.geocities.com/nsafrica/leadership.html 3. A chance to interact with intellectuals of a high caliber from all over the world, including university students and professors, economists, philosophers, political theorists, policymakers from some governments, and many other people just interested in international affairs or interest in Africa. The location of these players include Washington DC, New York, Los Angeles, Portugal, United Kingdom, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Italy, Romania, Russia, Egypt, Botswana, Malaysia, Japan, India, Mexico and Argentina.
2. Active participants. The level of participation is high and players are very mindful to post long messages and repost those messages they delete. While it is impossible to avoid the occasional spammer from another region, the fact that all messages are copied and pasted into logs that are uploaded onto the website, helps nations stay on top of the events in Africa without missing their posts. In addition, noteworthy/important posts are also placed on the bulletin board.
1. Exciting gameplay and carefully-crafted scenarios that draw upon real world international scenarios. Often the African states create a parody of a real-life event. Other times, they devise scenarios that present policy problems currently faced by many governments. The region of Africa in NationStates becomes a testing ground for policy options and a sounding board for new ideas. Through the careful art of role playing, we can privately and even anonymously consult our views with other experts. Other times we simply build up ludicrous scenarios and just have fun with the development. Overall, we teach and learn the art of diplomacy and the nuances and challenges in international relations that many of us have learned from our theoretical/university or practical/policymaking experience.
Move to Africa today!

You make a strong case, but your nation and the region's UN delegate are both way off to the left. No thanks.

Actually, I am a conservative and Republican from the US; my country is left-leaning, sure...it has to role-model Mali.
THe UN Delegate is a fascist Moussolini-loving hypocrite. While his country statistics may indicate Venetian Duchy is a leftist country, that only reflects the general population. They currently have an elected populist right-leaning leader. Politics is funny that way sometimes :)
To: United Faiths
I understand better now, thanks. But I'm playing to live out a "run your own libertarian/conservative country" fantasy, not to see how well I can emulate ... well, something far removed from libertarian/conservative. I'd get depressed.

We could do a hostile takeover of the region. We'd probably need a bunch of the FR regions to come together, though.
